Keynote 5.2 Not Loading New Custom Themes

Yesterday I created a custom theme in Keynote 5.2 (running under the latest version of Lion, I have not updated to Mountain Lion yet), saved it as a theme to the location where all of my previous custom themes have been stored by the previous versions of Keynote, quit Keynote, relaunched Keynote, and that new custom theme was not shown in the Theme Chooser. I also found a old custom theme that needed to be edited. I started a new presentation with that theme, revised the masters, and saved it as a Theme replacing the original kth file. I again quit and relaunched Keynote and discovered that the theme was no longer shown in the Theme Chooser. I looked in the folder (buried deep in "my user" Library Application Support) holding my custom themes and verified that both kth files were present. I tried restarting the computer - still not there. I tried shutting down and booting back up - still not there.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Has anyone reported it and started a case on the issue? Has anyone figured out how to correct the issue? Has anyone figured out how to force Keynote 5.2 to re-find, re-index, or update the Theme Chooser so new custom themes show up?

Thanks

SecStage, it runs good. I did the

  1. themeMetaData copy/paste
  2. Preview.tiff

method in Keynote 5.3 this morning. Twice. I did keep

<key>hidden</key>

<false/>

<key>order</key>

<integer>8</integer>

in themeMetaData, and no disaster. The order key places it on the Theme Chooser gallery. Also, i used

<key>application-version</key>

<string>Keynote 5.3</string>

for the version key. Worked fine.

So... molte grazie. This user-generated Theme trouble has been burning my grits for a several years now, but now I am back in the driver's seat.

My themes would not save, but now this workaround works great for me...

Go into your Keynote preferences and turning off the following:

( ) Save new documents as packages

( ) Copy audio and movies into document

Then save your theme as usual.

Quit and restart Keynote.

Your new theme should appear.

(Don't forget to change back your above settings in Keynote preferences)

Hope this helps save someone some frustration.
