60gb iPod reset - everything erased.... is that right?

All,

ON a road trip with the family - had all music from everyone on the IPOD.

It hung - didn't have the manuals with us so we were trying to figure out the 'reset' - we did - kinda.

pressed 'menu' and the center selector button. iPod made some noises for a bit - and presto - back to factory settings - everything was gone from the iPod.

Of course this was in hour 2 of our 2 week family trip!

is this combo of button pressing supposed to completely remove all songs/pics/movies/etc? Is this right?

I was looking for a 'reboot' function, not a function to wipe the ipod out - is there a 'reboot' function?

thx

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

As has been mentioned already, a reset should not erase the contents of your iPod.

I'm curious... If you go into SETTINGS > ABOUT on your iPod, what do you see as the capacity and available space?
If it shows as still having that space being used, your music is still there - In this case another reset might get it to show up again.

Cheers!
