who installed McAfee on my Safari

There's only one way that would get installed: With the Administrator putting in the Admin password. It did not come from any re-boot.

Which ISP are you using?

I do know that Comcast was offering "free, crucial security program" like two months or so ago . . . and I think it was McAfee. I remember being surprised. Anyway, I refuse all Comcast recommended free apps, because I know they're for PCs, not us.

Anyway, glad it's gone (I hope).

Same happened to me, and I realized it's because we just had Verizon (like Comcast) come out to give us faster FIOS. (Note: my husband let them install this on my computer while I was out! 😟) Besides the McAfee logo showing up on my Safari toolbar, I now have a Verizon logo at the top right of my Mac. When I click on it, it says, "Verizon Internet Security Suite - Powered by McAfee...Use this scan to schedule regular scan operations for your Mac to detect viruses, spyware, and other threats."

So, @Bee, this one does say for Mac....

If this happened to me, I would immediately look for the McAfee Uninstall file. It's often in the "Install" folder.

That's obnoxious. At the very least, it will most likely slow down your Mac.

I'm so glad you said something. I told my husband that I thought the internet on my computer was running slower, not faster! I think you are so right! I uninstalled it. Thank you so much for the input and help!
