Macbook Retina cracking sound when muted

Hey guys,

I just found that my Macbook Pro with Retina display makes a litle cracking sound when trying to play an alert, even when muted.

Not sure if it's an issue or a normal behaviour.

You can check if yours makes this as well when turn off the sound and make your mac play an alert sound, e.g. go to System preferences and press cmd+j (this is an invalid shortkey that's why it will try to play an alert sound). The cracking sound is not really loud so listen carefully.

Please let me know how it went.

The local AppleStore is really far away from me so I don't want to lose a day for invalid issue, that's why I need your help.

Thank you!

Sorry to hear that. 😟

I still havn't heard from the local Apple Store, but hopefully they will be ready this week.

The problem is that we don't have a Genius Bar in my country. That was another reason why I posted this discussion before actually leaving it for a week.

If you still have the option to replace it with a new one, I encourage you to do it, since who knows what will not work next time. I'm really disappointed from Apple this time. I think I won't buy first generation of anything by them again.

An update from my side. I took my mac back. They fixed the display by replacing it with another one. The body is not that creaky anymore, which is nice. But they told me that the cracking sound is a software issue. All of the retinas in the store have have the same problem. So it's either a software issue or something that exists in most of the retinas.

So I went to my appointment today and turns out that the tech didn't replace the speakers at all. He thought the culprit was the extra metal flying around in my case (***?) So I now have to wait till that gets replaced and also the keyboard part aswell. They have the same speakers there in the back room, so they just have to wait for the keyboard to get in.. hopefully very soon. I really hope they'll do this right so I don't have to go back again.
