Hi all.
I have a 4GB movie file in quicktime, which I need to compress to at least 1020MB or under.
Simply, what would be the best way to do this whilst not losing too much quality on the video file?

If you open the movie in Quicktime look at File->Export To->Web this is the window that will open:
You can try each export setting to see if it gives you the size and quality you need.

It is set to 1920x1080 resolution. Would changing the resolution help, and if so, how would I go about doing this.
The reason why it needs to be compressed is because it needs to be uploaded to the internet. It doesn't need super high definition.
I guess this didn't happen before, correct? If you look at the exported movie in Quicktime again you might be able to trim the tile from the rest of the movie. Look at Edit->Trim for this.

Are you looking to actually play the compressed file or are you looking to compress it, send it somewhere, uncompresse it and then play it?

This did the job perfectly, and the file size is well within limits. However, the exported movie shows the title of the project at the start when playing.
Is there a way to export this movie without this title appearing?

MpegStreamclip is a free video converter that is essential. It lets you open a clip, and then export it at various bit rates and so smaller sizes. One can also, but using the I and O keys, select in and out points to edit the clip.

What format is the file in now?
It's in the .mov format (quicktime movie) and I would need to still be able to play the compressed file.

.mov files are compressed, you won't be able to resize it very much, certainly nowhere close to 4 to 1. 😟
If losing quaity is ok you can reduce the size substantially in order to reach your goal.
Don't worry, my mistake. It was opening in VLC player and I hadn't noticed. When opened in quicktime, that title doesn't appear.
