Unknown error in restoring iPhone

I am unable to turn on my iPhone or restore it due to unknown error. Any ideas on how to fix this?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1

I could not restore and error 6 kept repeating. I disabled my firewall under Computer + Internet and it still would not restore. I then also disabled the firewall section Identity& Data and it finally restored. It seems the WHOLE firewall, all sections, needs to be disabled before it would restore.
