Welcome to Apple Communities
Insert the DVD, press C key in boot, open Disk Utility, erase the disk and install
You have to download Mountain Lion, create a USB or DVD install disc, then boot from it.
I can't install off my disk. It says I have to download Lion off the Internet. I want MOUNTAIN LION off a DISK.
I don't want to download anything. I have a limited Internet cap
You have to download Mountain Lion, so if you don't want to download OS X, stay with your version
I already have mountain lion. Just on a disk
Insert the disc, press C key in boot, erase the disk in Disk Utility and install Mountain Lion. If it asks you for download OS X, you burned the recovery
I've erased it, but I don't know how to install mountain lion
Close Disk Utility. Then, press Install OS X in the window and follow steps
It says install 10.7 instead of 10.8
You have Lion in that DVD
I know that. It says I have to download version 10.7.
You burned Recovery instead of Lion. You must download Mountain Lion
I didn't burn anything. I erased Macintosh HD and the quit disk utility.
I then clicked on reinstall Mac OSX
It told me I have to download lion.
The mountain lion disk is in the computer
When you boot your computer, hold down the option key. Wait until you see a DVD icon and select it to boot from. If this is a legitimate ML installation disk, the option to install should be fairly aparent.
Make sure your computer meets the system requirements for ML.
If you haven't erased your disk yet and you could boot from your DVD successfully, There should be a menu on the top of the screen with the disk utility within. Select that.
From the left window, select your Macintosh HD disk and click on the Erase tab to the right.
Select the format – Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Click the erase button. Wait.
Now find the install mountain lion option.
If it doesn't function properly, then you have a different problem.
