how do i erase my macbook pro without saving data, and then install mountain lion from a CD?
im currently running lion

How did you obtain the Mountain Lion disk (since that does not come on a disk)?
Did you purchase Mountain Lion at the app store?
FWIW, you were using recovery and, if you erase the HD, you need to download the OS again.
