Can't connect PC to OS X Mountain Lion Server

Hi,

Did you type your own password at the begining of the script

between the quotes, at the end of the following line:

set Pass_word to "..."

replacing the ... with your own password?

Yes that's what I did, I don't know what the error message means.

Larry, thank you. I have scoured the net and could not get my mac to share with my win7 machine. It had to have been an issue with user names though I thought having an account on each machine with the same exact user name and password would help, it didn't. I did manage to get them to play nicely with another user name. Thank you so much. John

Thomas Thaler1, My network settings match what you posted, yet we still have no access to ML Server from Win7. I have read that others just turned off Sharing, then turned it back on; hasn't worked for me. I have made SMB changes in Server, as others suggested elsewhere; hasn't worked for me. I have made SMB changes and AFP changes in Sharing, as others suggested elsewhere; hasn't worked for me. I have made the changes you suggested; hasn't worked for me. I'll keep searching...

BUT FIRST TRY WITHIN AN TRIAL ENVIRONMENT BEFORE GOING LIFE!!!

Also keep an eye on the networking stuff like Switches, Hubs, Firewalls, Routers, Bridges, .....

I did solve some very strange problems in the past by exchanging such devices or upgrade their firmware.

I'm having the same problem with my Mac Pro running Mountain Lion in my Windows environment at work - PC clients can't connect. Turning File Sharing off and then back on again after a reboot completely solves the problem. Fortunately, the machine is very solid and I rarely reboot. In fact, I mainly reboot when I'm putting in a new hard drive or a new PCI card!

Clemgill - I would really like to use your AppleScript so that I can just have it run whenever I reboot the computer. However I am NOT running server - just "regular" Mountain Lion. Perhaps you could publish another script that works with non-server Mountain Lion? I have tried editing your script but I can not get it to work on my machine.

I am actually not running server either, I developed the script on OSX 10.8.4.

Make sure you adapt the initial lines of the script to your own setup and to the English version.

Let me suggest this, it worked on my computer when I set it up in English language.

set Sharing_pane to "Sharing"

set File_sharing_Off to "File sharing: Off"

set File_sharing_On to "File sharing: On"

#Change the "…" in the line hereafter with your own password while keeping it within the quotes. So the sequence "…" should look like "xyztuv" if xyztuv is your own password

set Pass_word to "..."

I've gotten it to work!

I did indeed add English language strings to the three variables, and I have set my pass_word variable for my own system.

I had to make a few other changes for the script to work on my system:

The "File Sharing" checkbox is the third service (row 3) on my Mac. In a few places, I made the change to Row 3:

clickcheckbox 1 of row3

(in your script it's click checkbox 1 of row 2)

I added a delay immediately after Click Button 4 (which clicks unlock), and I was able to remove the delay before clicking button 2 of group 2. Without the new delay, it was trying to type the password before the password request box had opened, and I got an error. See the changes below:

# Unlock modifications

clickbutton 4

delay 0.5 # I needed to add this line

# type in your user password

tell application "System Events" to tell window 1 of process "SecurityAgent"

set value of text field 2 of scroll area 1 of group 1 to Pass_word

# delay 1 # I was able to remove this line

clickbutton 2 of group 2

delay 0.5

end tell

Hello,

My apologies for jumping on this thread.. though several months down the line. We have a mac min os x server, and I am having difficulty connecting to it from my windows 8 pc. I had no trouble, or little trouble I should say, connecting to my pc via the mac. I tried going through Run with the \\server\share, also the mac doesn't show in my network either. I new to Mac and this is extremely frustrating! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Another problem with PC to Mac share access is that the bloody thing limits the upload size (from PC to Mac). It stops at ~ 2Gb & "There is a problem..." message pops up!

Try to copy anything bigger to Mac from Windows PC & it will error out each time. Anything smaller & all is fine.

Just plain silly!
