Would like to update my system software but I get this message everytime:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.)(-1012)
Any ideas on what this is?
Does this delete anything? Or is the hard drive the same afterwards as it was before the reinstall?
Evrything is the same. NOTE I did it on a machine that had Mountain Lion installed... always safe to have a backup of all your data, etc before doing anything major like this. I had my time machine backup so I did not worry much.

Everything is the same. Though backing things up is ALWAYS a good idea.
i just changed my DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and the issue went away... not sure if it'll work for everyone but it did for me.
Hi guys, i had the same problem till few minutes ago when i try to flush DNS cache to resolve the problem and it works for me!!! How to do this? It's simple:
Open terminal and copy and paste this command
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
It will ask your password, insert it and press enter, that's all!

Still same problem.
reinstall Mountain Lion.
Turn off iMac
turn it on while pressing COMMAND-R
select from the options to "reinstall OS"
as new

sorry guys, but this is *not* a solution. reinstall? come on, there has to be another way other then reverting to the windows approach!

I was having the error:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)
I tried rebooting, fixing disk permissions, resetting router, etc. Entering tehe following command into Terminal (and then password) worked perfectly!
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
Okay... Reinstalled and now works...
I tried all other procedures to no avail

The following worked for me!
1. Open System Preferences - Network
2. Highlight active connection
3. Click Advanced.
4. TCP/IP
5. Renew DHCP Lease
That worked for me, too!
