Looking at used 20' G5

If you buy a refurbished iMac from Apple, you can certainly get AppleCare, but I'm not sure what happens if you are buying from a third party.
I'm also interested in buying a pre-Intel iMac. I haven't heard of any inherent defects; just the opposite. I'm more wary of the Intel version, from what I am hearing.

I was in a Costco Club over the weekend and they had brand new 20" iMac G5s for about $1495, which included Applecare. A good deal if you want a G5. I personally love my Intel iMac.

You can add AppleCare to an iMac G5 within its first year, regardless how many owners there have been. To check on the date for a particular machine, enter the serial number in the "About Your Support Coverage" box on the main Support page. Even if it's not your computer yet, the info is available there - a good way to find out if it's already got AppleCare but the owner forgot about it.

Hmm thanks for the tip. Exept mine says "according to our estimated records the warranty is expired" but I know it has been less than year based on my bill of sale. Does Apple go by the machine or the bill of sale?

Apple goes by the date the unit was first sold to the first owner.

The phrase "estimated records" seems to indicate they don't know at all when it left the inventory of the selling dealer - a perfect opportunity for you to provide your information and get it corrected.
