iPhoto will not open after Mountain Lion 10.8.1 update

Hello,

I just did the software update for Mountain Lion to bring me to version 10.8.1. Now I am unable to open iPhoto. It bounces in the dock for a short time, and then an error window comes to "send" to Apple, and then you click on "Reopen" to try opening it again. But it won't open---it keeps bringing up the error window.

iPhoto was working perfectly fine before the software update. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

(PS: I'm using the newest version of iPhoto 11)

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion

Sorry for the dumb question, but there is one step I'm not understanding. I went ahead and created a new account using the method you suggested.

Now that I have this new account, I'm going to guess what to do with it next although I'm really not sure:

-Sign out of the account I'm using right now

-Sign in with the new "test" account

Okay, now what do I do? I know that you said to "make a new library", but I have no idea what that means. Help!

Thanks.

I have the same problem. The error message looked different (to me that is). Do you know what might be causing the issue?

You need to reinstall as it's missing background elements.

To re-install iPhoto

1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)

2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.

2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type

/var/db/receipts/

2c: on 10.7 they're at

/private/var/db/receipts

A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.

3. Re-install.

If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.

If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.

If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.
