ethernet status is unplugged unless I turn on airport

Hey All,

I have a problem with an iMac 1.83 intel core duo running 10.6.8. When I first turn on the computer the ethernet status is unplugged no matter how long I wait.

As soon as I turn on the airport network interface ethernet becomes available and is listed as gigabit full duplex.

Any ideas what this problem is?

Thanks,

Ben

This is an Open Directory environment. The problem is that with no one logged in unless I have airport on no network accounts can login.

So with no one logged in and airport turned off it doesn't work.

With no one logged in and airport turned on but the service order set to prefer ethernet it does work.

I don't think it is account related I do believe it software related but I'm not sure how.

Thanks,

Ben
