HP Scan utility no longer works with Mountain Lion

Updated from 10.6.8 to 10.8. HP Scan software utility no longer boots, yielding an error message warning of incompatibility. I run Software Update over and over again, but HP Scan still did not boot.

I ran HP Uninstaller, but it did not remove the HP folder within Applications. So I deleted HP Scan and other utilities manually.

I ran Software Update again, and it re-downloaded and re-installed HP Printer Software Update 2.11. However, it did not install the HP Scan utility. Now I can only scan using the Printer/Fax System Preference or Image Capture, whereas the HP Scan utilility had much more functionality.

Apparently HP Scan is only part of HP's Full Software Install. However, Mountain Lion ONLY allows the use of Software Update for printers, and there is nowhere on the HP website to download the HP Scan utility or Full Software for Mountain Lion -- they only instruct one to use Apple's Software Update which doesn't provide any HP utilities.

Where can I find the HP Scan utility (for PSC 1610) that is compatible with 10.8? It certainly is not available from HP -- see:

You may gwt the HP Scan software by installing the full feature software below:

Be sure to check HP Recommended Software.

Regarding Acrobat, the HP Software only support ICA and no longer support Twain since the v10.7 software. As Adobe only support Twain you will not be able to scan via Adobe's interface.. you will noeed to scan using HP Scan or Image Capture and then open it with Adobe..

Sorry. Didn't know.

You are linking to that 460MB file I downloaded earlier. When I installed it, nothing happens. I mean I can see the install process, I get the message after the install that it is successful, but after the install I can't see any new software anywhere. So where did that half GB go? What have I installed and where?

Dear ShlomiL,

THANK YOU!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You did what Apple Care missed, what HP didn't find, what HP wanted to charge me 30 USD for(?), and what I myself could not find. No matter where I looked I always ended up back on that file sig is linking to. But that file doesn't do anything for me. But the files you linked to are JUST what I needed. Days of frustration over! I was sooo close just going in to town buying a new printer. Man...you have no idea how much I appreciate your help. Thank you so much!

I just noticed that the release ShlomiL linked to was released by HP yesterday, the day I posted here, so no wonder I never found that software link 😝

Anyway, can someone help me figure out how I can uninstall this software package:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

It said to take about 550MB of space on my computer. As I can't see that software anywhere after installation plus the software package ShlomiL linked to gave me all the software I needed, I want to remove the aprox 550MB from my Mac. But how to uninstall something I can't see or locate? This will be last piece of the puzzle. Hope you can help.

Thanks.

You may manually uninstall it by removing its files from the library..

However be aware that you will need to reinstall the Full Feature Software and update the latest drivers via Software Update as the HP software relies on the same drivers...

To do so go to Library > Printers and remove the entire HP folder.

Next enter PPD > Contents > Resources and remove the files within this folder (be sure to keep any subfolder and only remove the files...)

Next reinsall the full feature software, finally reboot your Mac and run Software Update..

Personally I would not recommend you doing in order to avoid any possible problem, as the Software Updae will re-download some of the package conent as well (I would assume around 100-200 MB part of that package)

Ok I'll drop it since I had too much time wasted on this already. But it's really hard to ignore since it's just wrong to use that much space on something you'll never use....

Does anyone know about a Adobe Acrobat software I can use the scanner with on OS X 10.8? Or do we just have to wait for Adobe to bring an update that will fix this so I can scan with Adobe Acrobate with my HP scanner?

My printer/scanner was working fine with everything after upgrading to 10.8 until I made the mistake of "upgrading" to the 2.13 software update. I hadn't realized, and its description certainly didn't say, that I would be losing Twain and therefore losing Acrobat Pro scanning.

It's not a 10.8 limitation because Brother still supports Twain. Personally I will not be buying HP for my next printer unless they add Twain support back.

Thank you Vincent G - Brilliant work around - Thank you for posting this gem - Works like a charm, who'da'a thought? & very good it is to have this HP Scan software working properly on Mountain Lion which I have finally & just taken the leap to from Snow Leopard - Strange how such a useful bit of software such as this could be so tangled up in getting proper upgrades

Hello !

I have a solution :

Download a package of latest multifonction printer (scanner) mountain lion compatible

for example :

HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer series

Download the 10.8 package

right click to display the content of package

Browse the Contents/Packages

and select HPScan to install

thats'all !!!

and work fine with my old HP b110a multifonction printer
