Recording audio on a ibook

I have Audio City and use my ibooks internal mic. This is not the best, but for notes to myself it seems to work. Is there a native recording app in OSX like there was for OS 7-9? There will come a time when I will need a ibook USB mic, if one exists. Does one? Yes I am aware of the iMic or whatever it is (that I have) which allows me to hook up an external tape recorder and convert the audio to digital.

But it costs too much. Is there a cheaper alternative? My PlainTalk mic I used for years with my Performa 6360 could record as clear as day, and did not cost a fortune.

You can get a Griffin iMic and that allows you to use any Mic. It is a USB device that gives you audio input and output.

Please re-read my post. I mentioned that I have a imic and it DOES NOT do what I want in this situation.

That was a wee bit snappy! What exactly is it you want to do? I to have an iMic and use it with my PC mic (Labtec £8 Sterling) for my daughter to record audio messages to the family worldwide. I also use it this way with Skype and the sound is spot on.

I wnat a USB mic that would replace the Plain Talk Mic I used for my Performa 6360 for years. I have a iMic, but its not a Mic. Its only a converter for converting tapes to digital. Or it allows me to hook up an external Mic. Dont they have decent USB mics?

No one has solved my issues because nice PORTABLE USB mics do not exist for the Mac. But they do for PC's.

I didn't see any responses to the headset idea. You may want to look at Skype's headsets. You might want to also look at...

You need to learn what the PlainTalk mic was and how cheap it sold for.
