podcasts not playing

I have talked to the support folks no less than four times they can't help me. I download podcasts to my shuffle from various subscriptions, however when the podcasts from one subscription are done playing no matter what I do the next subscription podcasts will not play. It is not the forward button, and I have tried moving everything to a playlist to no avail. I know others are having this issue but Apple says it is not their problem so I am hoping someone out there has a solution!

When using the shuffle, when you use the VoiceOver button, as described in this document

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4322

in the sections Changing playlists and To choose an item from the playlist menu, do you hear that playlist called "Podcasts" being listed by VoiceOver? If you do, what happens when you select it?

Maybe you should rename that playlist to something more distinct (not "Podcasts"), so that it is more obvious when VoiceOver says it.

Thank you, but as I said, it is not listed in the voice over. I have very good ears, and have listened to it several times. I have two podcasts listed for simplicity, and I don't think I would confuse "The Life of Spiders" and "How Minerals are Formed" with "Podcasts". 😉 There are only three things to listen for, and only the two episodes are listed with Voice Over. The reason I am so frustrated is because I am doing everything suggested, but it is not working. And I also have restored it several times.

I would try renaming it anyways, to something different, like "[Your name]'s shuffle podcasts." Maybe there is a bug that ignores a playlist called "Podcasts" because that's the exact name of one of content categories. 🙂

Also, try putting one or two other playlists on the shuffle with music, to see if this is a general problem with VoiceOver not listing playlists for some reason, or if this only happens when the playlist only has podcasts.

There are only three things to listen for, and only the two episodes are listed with Voice Over.

NOTE: On the playlist list that VoiceOver reads off, the podcasts should be listed, not the episodes. So if the episode is called "The Life of Spiders," you should not be hearing that... You should be hearing the name of the overall podcast. If you are hearing the name of an episode, you may be doing something else with VoiceOver.

On my iPod, I have two playlists called:User uploaded file

1. EverythingSucks which has 3 songs on it

2. SuperDuperSpecialList which has 3 podcasts on it

(the 3 podcasts are Jordan Jesse Go, Stuff Mom Never Told you, and Stuff You Missed in History Class)

Nothing else is on there.

When I push the voice over button, it recites:

"All Songs" (I have nothing named as such)

"EverythingSucks" which plays music in continuous play

"Jordan Jesse Go"

"Stuff Mom Never Told you"

"Stuff You Missed in History Class'

Listed as completely separate playlists, even though the are not. See screenshot.

As mentioned in the document I previously linked, "All Songs" is the default playlist of all the songs on iPod shuffle. It is always there as one of the choices on VoiceOver's list of playlists.

When I push the voice over button

To hear the list of playlists, you need to press and hold down the button (until you hear VoiceOver). So make sure you are doing that...

Podcasts (not podcast episodes) ARE supposed to be listed separately on the list of playlists (even though they are not "playlists" that you created). Audiobooks and iTunes U collections are also listed on the list of playlists, if you put them on your shuffle. This is also mentioned in the document I previously linked.

So the only question is, why "SuperDuperSpecialList" is not listed on VoiceOver's list of playlists. The shuffle's power switch is on the middle play-in-order position, correct? Podcasts DO get skipped in shuffle mode, so a playlist with only podcast episodes may get skipped, if the shuffle is in shuffle mode. But if it's in play-in-order mode, I don't know why "SuperDuperSpecialList" is not listed...

As a test, put one song on "SuperDuperSpecialList" (in addition to the three podcast episodes). If there is a song on the playlist, is it listed on VoiceOver's list of playlists?

Oh my goodness.

The one piece of information I was missing is that the power button HAS a middle position.

I had set all of the digital settings to "play in order", but I had absolutely no idea that the power switch was a manual setting I had to change. I had thought that it was simply on to the left and off to the right.

Thank you! It was such a simple fix. Now all of my podcasts on my playlist play continuously. My sanity and workout sessions are immensely grateful to your patience and knowledge!!!

Now how do I make that little green button that says "This solved my problem" to give you your 10 pts?

🙂

Glad you got it working... 🙂

You need to be the "original" poster (the person who created the topic) to do that... The next time you have a question, instead of adding to an old existing topic, you can click on Start a discussion (under Actions) in the appropriate forum category, here in this case

https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipod/ipod_shuffle

This will create a new topic where you are the original poster, and you can award those points for helpful replies and mark your question as "solved." Brand new topics are also more likely to be read by community members.
