Deleting /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist solved the "Unknown Error Occured" for me as well. I noticed that I also had a second network interface adapter configured for Eth2, not sure why, maybe VMWare did that. Anyways, I'm currently signed back into the App Store, iMessage, FaceTime & iCloud.
I used the System Preferences' Network tool to make some changes to my network interfaces, and that cleared things up. (I deleted some odd entries that seemed to be related to my cell phone.) I did not need to reboot, but I did exit and restart iBooks and iTunes to make this work.
Hi, I have Macbook Pro 2010 and it was hurt in accident and I lost top case with screen. I want to use it with external screen. I bought USB WiFi and everything works, but I can't log into App Store.
I have still got "an error has occurred". I think the reason is I don't have build-in ethernet or wifi card only USB WiFi. I deleted /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist but it doesn't worked.Oh I have this ASUS USB-N10 wifi adapter and I can see it in ifconfig as en0. In network preferences I have nothing else beside this ASUS WiFi.
BTW when I try EFIStudio / Ethernet / Add Device: I get "Device path not found! Ethernet not available on this machine!".
Worked perfectly for me. Thanks
navigate to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and then delete NetworkInterfaces.plist
then restart ur mac, setting ur network and sign in app store"
Nice one! Worked for me 🙂 Thanks!!!
T&C trick worked for me!!
I recently installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard onto my desktop PC in an attempt to create a "Hackintosh" so that I can use X-Code for a Mobile Development class that I am going to be taking shortly. I updated to Snow Leopard 6.8 and am attempting to sign into the Mac App Store to download OS X Mavericks how ever when ever I attempt to sign in I get a red text message that "An unknown error has occurred." under the Apple ID input area. I have been attempting to self-help the issue with the Mac App Store community support forums, however all the stated solutions are either not working for me, not possible to try due to not being signed into the Mac App Store, or not possible because the files on my hard drive are not reflecting the same information that is in the forums.
Attempted solutions Results:
T&C Does not work, unable to sign in to sign out, loging into
a different Apple ID does not work either, even tried to
go all the way with logging into a different Apple ID, it
says then that, "Your request is temporarily unable to
be processed."
Deleting files The files on my system don't seem to coruspond to
what is listed in this thread or any other thread that I
have been able to find here.

I forgot to mention that I have also attempted to Log into a different user name on my computer, and that also did not work. I also submitted a Customer Service ticket via e-mail and got a response, this is what I was told:
You may need to reset your browser cache, such as history, cookies, and temporary internet files, along with reseting the iTunes' application cache. The iTunes cache can be reset by following these steps:
1) Open iTunes
2) At the top menu, click File > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac)
3) In the Preference menu, click the Advanced tab
4) In the Advanced menu, you should see a button that says "Reset Cache". Please click this button.
After clearing all caches, you'll need to check your internet browser settings, and be sure that any settings titled "Automatically detect settings" are turned off (or the option not selected). Once that is done, you can try again and you should be good.
It also did not work.
OSX 10.6.8, trying to install the Mavericks update. I have tried several solutions here
1. I can not logout because I am not logged in.
2. Clicking create new apple ID does nothing.
3. In Activity Monitor athe process called "storeagent" is not running
4. To find and delete NetworkInterface.plist I tried this "under Finder "Go" tab computer/Library/preferences/system configuration" I just get the message "The folder can't be found"
5. Have not tried country change. How and where do you change country.
Trying to delete plist
I get a "No such file or directory" message in finder. Also when I try to do it in Terminal but not sure I am typing the right thing in Terminal. I did..
cd library/preferences/system
I installed Mavericks and now cannot get into software update or apps store. I deleted the .plist file ( two different times because it came back). restarted, I couldn't find a save in preferences network. My region is Spain and I changed it to USA and later back(didn't ask for sign in) but none of this works. I checked my network connections and they show ethernet connected and green dot for both ethernet and wireless.
I tried everything here then found another site with information which worked.
I can not find where the post was with the instructions but I did this,
1. open system preferences.
2. go to network settings
3. delete the etehrnet by sleceting and hitting -
4. reboot in safe mode like this, it takes quite a whiel to start up as it performs checks.
A. | Be sure your Mac is shut down. |
B. | Press the power button. |
C. | Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone. |
D. | Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear). |
After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
5. go to system pereferences
6. network settings.
7. click the + and add ethernet
8. apply
9. Now reboot again. (NOT in safe mode)
10. you may be able to login at this point. I could not.
11. BUT when I went to the app store, "store" menu "sign out" was now showing.
12.. I signed out, logged back in and all was well.
As the post I read for these instructions said, I see no logic to why your Ethernet setup effacts the app store login, but it did. I had tried everything else mentioned
This worked great !
None of the stuff mentioned above were able to resolve my problems. I was however able to fix the problem on my networked iMacs, let me explain:
I have 20 fancy iMacs in a computer lab on an Active Directory domain and upgraded them to Mavericks. Immediately after the upgrade while logged in as root we were no longer able to login to the App Store with any valid Apple ID's. This made it impossible to update installed applications.
We called apple who told us (and this is serious folks) "try unplugging the computers to remove the excess electrical charge from the systems". Well after that didn't work and after no help from the technical support team I discovered that the problem with the App Store in our case was related to the root account. I logged off the root account and logged in as a normal domain user and had no problem getting into the App Store to do the updates.
I still don't know why it won't work for the root account but really don't care because I have a work around.
I just wanted to pass this tidbit along because this was a really annoying problem.
Thanks Mark - Worked like a charm.
