iPod touch is connected to wifi, but no internet

I have the newest iPod touch and newest software. When i join my wifi network at my moms house im connected, but i dont have internet access, but when i connect at my dads i have internet. the password is correct and everything, PLEASE help!

Even though the iPod shows as been connected, it might not have actually received a valid IP address via DHCP from your Wi-Fi access point or router. Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected. If 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is listed for an IP Address, then your iPod did not receive a valid IP address. To correct this you can reboot your router by unplugging it from power for about 30 seconds.


It wouldn't hurt to also reset your iPod. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.


Perhaps this article would be worth at as there may be a configuration on your mother's router/modem that is preventing access. This will require you to have admin access to the router/modem's configuration interface that is usually accessible via a web browser.

And you cannot browse the web via Safari or use apps that require Internet access? Did you reboot the router? Have you tried connecting the iPod touch to another network to see if it still works there?


Did you review the router's configuration to make sure certain settings were not in place that could be restricting your Internet access?

You didn't indicate if it ever worked. If it NEVER did, the problem could be caused by a firewall in the router. For reasons that I do not understand, that will affect IOS (iPod/iPad) communication but will not affect computers or other devices.


You will need administrative access to the router. If a firewall is present, turn it off and test the iPod again. If it works, turn the firewall back on but weaken it a notch and test the iPod again. Repeat as required.

There may be settings to only allow devices with certain MAC addresses to connect or a time of day restriction on certain MAC addresses. There might be a setting in place for how many IPs the DHCP server can hand out. DHCP might not even be turned on in the first place. There a number of things to do look for.
