sync ipad to new pc

I just purchased a new PC, and am trying to connect my iPad to it through iTunes). Everything is setup - iTunes is running, recognizes the iPad, the PC is authorized, and the iPad is connected (USB). Sync even appears to work - at least no errors are displayed.

However, since this is a new PC, what iTunes has is blank, and what the iPad has is all the free and installed apps. If I click on the "Sync Apps" (in Apps tab), I get the following error:

User uploaded file

If this truely syncs my iTunes (empty) app list to the iPad, it will wipe all of my paid-for apps as well. I know I can always download the free apps again if necessary, but I'm not sure how to get my paid-for apps back if this wipes all of the apps off the iPad to match the empty list in iTunes.

And, before someone suggests this, I do not backup to the Cloud (for security and privacy reasons), so the only existing backup is on the old PC. And, restoring it from the old PC would only raise (I assume) the same issue when connected to the new one again.

How can I re-load the paid-for apps onto the iPad/iTunes after iTunes wipes the iPad during the initial sync? I don't know if there's any other way to buy apps (or if it matters), but all of mine were purchased using my Apple ID.

(I've got an iPad 3 - not listed as a valid product in the drop down on this forum)

Sync with new computer

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2431472

1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.

2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.

3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.

4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.

5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.

6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.

If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

That should do it.

Thanks for the detailed instructions!

Just one follow up question - Where does iTunes backup the data on the PC? Can that location be changed? When I get a new PC, I usually just bring my data drive (separate from OS drive) to the new PC. If I could locate the backup on the data drive, then the backup data would move with the drive, and the steps you listed above may not be necessary.

Thanks again!.
