How do I use External Hard Drive for my iTunes Library?

I have a Mac Mini that my iTunes Library has outgrown. I want to use my Mac Air as my primary iTunes "sync" computer using an external hard drive. How do I move my iTunes library to the external hard drive? How do I get MacBook Air to sync iDevices?

Go to iTunes Preferences and select Advanced. There you will see ITunes Media folder location. Click the Change button and select the external drive and directory where you wish to keep your media files. I would suggest you also check "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library".

thakks buddy !! that worked ie using option key open itunes

you can also do via preferences

Not really.
Changing the preferences changes the iTunes media folder location, not the iTunes library.

And I recommend not changing the prefs to a different location.
Keep the iTunes library and the iTunes media folder in the same location.

Much less hassle.

Thanks for that . Not entirely sure what I did , but I seemed to have used both. The last time was via option, so hopefully that overides anything I did in preference. My next challange is to get iTunes to see my NAS drive that has my dvd collection (burning my dvds with wondershare converter, all legitimate). I can open the NAS on my mac, play it and airplay to my appleTV, but would be nicer if I could just acces my MP4 video collection from itunes / apple TV.

It depends what is set in the library file.

(burning my dvds with wondershare converter,

Ripping. Burning is creating a CD/DVD DISC as in burn with laser.

all legitimate

Legally, not really.

In order to RIP DVDs you need to break the encryption, which is illegal.
