When I insert a picture, i either have the choice of cropping the picture or having black bars on the sides. How can I insert a picture into imovie and not be dictated based on the aspect ratio. thanks

I have filmed a freeway. I want to put in a sign that says EAST, just like you would see on the interstate above the shield, and also the signs I see on http://www.youtube.com/user/eluko79 in the first video without playing. basically, i want to import a picture in to imovie in eluko79's fashion without the black bars

The transparency feature has been removed in iMove 2011, probably to make those who want to do this pay them $600 for final cut pro and all the other utilities that make it go!
I found out how to do the images.I have to create a file in paint (on my PC) that has a 16:9 aspect ratio. then, I have to copy the image into the file, and insert it into imovie.

I'm sorry to say, but that is plain wrong.
nothing has been removed, actual screenshot, actual iM11:
as mentioned on my site, the pic has to be 16:9 and has to be saved in png or tiff to keep transparency - that simple and possible to accomplish without 3rd party tools or 'other' OS ....
I just found that out from another thread after posting this. I created a 1920x1080 .png image in Paint, and saved it as frame.png. i then inserted all of my signs into the project, in frame2.png, frame3.png, and so on, then inserted them into my movie
