Feedburner, Libsyn and Byte Range Requests

I have a similar question about feedburner. I have created a feedburner rss feed from a wordpress.com category, from just the wordpress.com webpage without a category, and, just to see if it would work, a blogspot page with only videos uploaded from YouTube, but I get the byte-range requests error when I submit all three of these rss urls to iTunes. What could be going on? I thought feedburner was supposed to be a great solution? Is it possibly because the videos are embedded with embed codes from You Tube and Vimeo?

You can not have a feed with embeded videos - iTunes does not support videos from Youtube or Vimeo.

You need to have the videos hosted on a media host like - libsyn.com - the recommended video format is .m4v H.264 codec and 640 x 360 in size.

Here are Apples own specs requirements.

But I would go with the above - which is in the Apple spec - as it is the sweet spot where the video will work for all mobile devices as well as for Apple TV.

Again you are going to need a good media host for your video files if you want to make them available as a podcast - and free services are not likely going to work for you.

Your media file is .swf in a Tumblr media player: iTunes does not play Flash files. Your media files must be .mp3, .m4a, .m4v, .mov or .mp4, and must be hosted on a server which can handle byte-range requests. Your 'enclosure' tag must contain a direct URL to the media file, not any sort of embedded player.

i might have the same problem. but i'm not an english native speaker, so it is not that easy for me to follow your discussion. i tried to execute what other users helped, but i didn't get it to work by now.

i also get the message, my host does not support byte range.

the files are on dropbox.

This comes back to not using Dropbox for your podcast host.

It is not recommended and should not be done.

If it is an issue of cost - use internet archive for your podcast hosting - otherwise you need to host your media files with a host designed specifically for podcasting.

Dropbox is a bad solution for podcast hosting.

I'm afraid that in its present condition your podcast is a non-starter. The main problem is that it has no 'enclosure' tags containing the URL of the media file; these are necessary for iTunes to see the media files, so at present your podcast is effectively empty.

Hosting your media files on Dropbox is a bad idea. It is not really designed for this sort ot thing: the https (secure) protocol it uses doesn't work well, if at all, in iTunes.

Furthermore it appears that it does not support byte-range requests - this is where only a part of the file is requested at any one time, rather than the whole file, and is essential for the iPhone.

Your feed is being constructed is Tumblr but it's not producing a proper podast feed; I'm afraid I can't advise on whether it's possible to make it do this or how you would go about it.

You may find it helpful to read this page on making podcasts: it includes a sample basic feed - I'm not suggesting you should hand-write your feed but it will help you to understand the process.

I'm afraid you will have to find another hosting service, and perhaps you may be advised to look for something other than Tumblr to construct the feed.
