When will Podcast app support playlists?

Yes, lack of playlists in the Podcasts app is a disappointment.

The next version of iTunes is coming out this month. Hopefully, there will be additional upgrades to the mobile apps that permit use of playlists.

Wow this is a really great alternative. I have been using Soundhound since you suggested it and find that I can enjoy what benefits there actually ARE in the Podcast app AND keep my playlists.

What? I just tried this and now I have no podcasts anywhere! There are no podcasts in my music app. What am I doing wrong?

Did you force quit the Music app on your iDevice?

Double tap the home button, then find the Music app in the list of running apps. Hold on the Music app until it wobbles. Hit the minus to quit it. Re-launch the music app and check your playlists again.

If this does not work you may need to re-sync your device with iTunes.

YES I deleted the podcast app on my iPhone and my smart list of podcasts are all back under the music app just like before!!!!

Trying to find my podcasts while driving was not a good experience. I did not even know there was a podcast app.

Here is what I did when I got home:

I removed the podcast app, powered down and turned on my iPhone and my playlist had returned. I just needed to make sure it was in chronological order and everything was back to normal. I guess Apple doesn't care enough to warn us when they make changes that break the functions we are accustomed to using.

The problem with trying to go back to the original set up is: your podcast playlists are there but you have no way to update them. This podcast app is awful. It is really buggy. It is slow and very unsatisfactory for an Apple product. I have not seen any comment by Apple. I am sure I am not the only one who submitted feedback.

One more thing. My iPhone is stand alone; I have never synced it with iTunes. It is not a convenient option for me. I just want to use it the way I used to.

Why did you decide to kill my MAIN use of my iPhone? I want my playlists back and I want to listen to them in my car. I spend hours commuting, and I want to listen to my podcasts without fiddling. Is that too much to ask?

The **** phone was expensive. It ought to work You should not make it WORSE.

CNMNB - go into your iPhone and delete the Podcats app. Thsi will force your playlists back onto your Music app and back to the functionality you are used to.

Yes, but you cannot download new ones without the new app. If you don't use iTunes and just download directly: this is not a fix.

I was talking to support (another unrelated AppleTV issue). I mentioned the podcast app and what a nightmare it was. I told him I was surprised there was no comment as there has been such a heated discussion going on. I thought it was a bigger issue than maps. He told me that everyone should make a post to feedback. This would be the best way to show our displeasure? I thought they would be monitoring there forums but, hey, what do I know.

Unfortunately, they don't usually monitor the forums so they are correct: if you haven't posted feedback, do so. Also if you are a developer, post to bugreport.apple.com.

No sense in reposting the rant. I was annoyed and it was somewhat impolite.

Better to encourage everyone to submit feedback. We may be annoyed-I certainly am--but Apple probably did not intend this.

My main problem is that the app can't "talk" to my car, so I can't listen to podcast playlists while commuting.

iTunes was fine. If it ain't broke, they don't need to fix it.
