Epson Stylus CX 4200

Purchased this Epson Stylus CX 4200 along with my iMac. I set it up, plugged it in and I know the printer works as a copier because I tested it. However, my computer and printer do not seem to be communicating with each other because I get a message along the lines of "Interface error" or "check connections for possible communication problem, etc, etc".

The thing is I've got the new printer hooked up to an Airport Express and I never loaded the CD included in the printer packaging, onto my iMac. I thought the computer would already have the drive for the 4200, even though it's not actually on the list of possible printers. I also know that my iMac detected the new printer wirelessly, through the Airport Express because it created an icon for it in one of the windows in "Printer Setup Utilities".

Did I miss a step here and does anyone have any ideas on how to get my printer to print?

The drivers on the CD will NOT work properly on an iMac. To get the correct drivers, go to Epson's website and download the correct ones. ..There is some detail on their download page about iMac and the CX4200

I got the same printer when I bought my iMac - at the time, the $90 deal seemed too good to pass up. In retrospect, I probably should have passed. Epson's customer support is quite poor. ..Though my printer does work, it has this very annoying habit of spitting out a blank page everytime I turn it on, or off, and just before it begins each print job. Again, it does work (and prints very nicely), but this is aggravating. I've emailed their support for assistance and they keep sending me the same "non-fix" involving running a testpage and cleaning the nozzles.

Hopefully you'll have better luck. Again, the print quality/speed is terrific.

As for my iMac, I couldn't be happier.

Hello syd123,

Thanks for your reply. So I downloaded the drivers from the Epson website, installed them, and then went to print. Still nothing, and still the message, "Interface type error = -1". (?)

Did I miss yet another step? I'll probably be calling the Apple Helpline and Epson technical support presently.
