messages opens multiple windows when selecting it from notifications

Hi

Do you mean you cannot Sign Out of the iMessages account in the Messages App ?

Or do you mean you can't Uninstall the Messages App ? (Not that I would recommend this as a reinstall includes doing a complete OS reinstall/recovery process)

for me what worked was just qutting imessage and restarting my computer unchecking the open active windows when logging in box. Sounds to good to be true but it worked for me

so has anyone figured out how to work around this? its getting really annoying, and I thought it was just me. HELP?!

Mine is doing the same thing, it's incredibly annoying and I cannot figure out a way to make it work. 😟

Hi,

So you have Messages App open.

However you have also closed (used the red Blob) the main Messages window so that you cannot see any current conversation.

You have the Notification Centre set to Notify on Messages and it does so for incoming iMessages.

At this point you say it opens 4 windows when you click the Notification.

Can you tell what what 4 windows ?

It should only be the Messages main window (Chat window/Interface)

I tried to test this using one of my own iPhones

I picked the one with the same Apple ID and it turned up like synce (no Notification, no sound alert)

I changed iPhone to one that does not use the same Apple ID

I got Notifications and sound but clicking the Notification does not open the main Messages window (I did still have my Buddy Lists on view).

Im having this same problem,

what happens is, when i get an imessage notification and click on it in notification center it opens up 3 identical windows in imessage. when i try to close two of the windows. it wont let me type in the remaining window until i close it and open imessage again

Btw. when i just click the imessage icon this doesnt happen and it opens with one window. so it must be something with notification center.

What happens if you change the style of the Alerts in the Notification Centre ?

What happens if you leave one Messages app window open such and the Main (CMD + 0) Messages chat and interface window or CMD + 1 for a Buddy List ?

I'm having the same problem. It opens some-odd 5 windows and some don't allow you to type in the message field. Don't know what that's about. It's really annoying. Seems like a glitch and not a setting

Before anything else please back up (Time machine)

Finder menu > Go > Hold Alt/Oprtion and click on Library

Library folder will open. Look for Saved Application State folder. Inside it look for com.apple.imessage.savedstate or something like that or com.apple.ichat.savedstate and drag that on the desktop. It should be removed from the folder. Then try to reboot to create a new fresh saved state folder and check again.Feel free to add back the saved state that you draged on the desktop if ever it didnt cure the problem.
