Mail Connections Lost After Sleep (Ports Fail)

I am having the problem that others are having regarding Mail reconnecting after sleep. Typically, it fails to connect to my Company IMAP server, and the IMAP Gmail server (but connects to the Gmail SMTP server). It looks like this in Connection Doctor:

User uploaded file

I have done the following already:

1. Deleted and reinstalled the accounts

2. Reinstalled Mountain Lion from network

3. Reset my SMC

I have searched for any firewall that would mess it up, but have come up with nothing. Here is the readout from Terminal:

ls: /Library/InputManagers: No such file or directory

ls: /Library/Mail/Bundles: No such file or directory

ls: /Users/KyleEssary/Library/Mail/Bundles: No such file or directory

/Library/LaunchAgents:

com.Cvnt.start.plist

com.amazon.sendtokindle.launcher.plist

/Library/LaunchDaemons:

com.Cvnt.daemon.plist

com.adobe.fpsaud.plist

/Library/StartupItems:

/Users/KyleEssary/Library/LaunchAgents:

com.apple.AddressBook.ScheduledSync.PHXCardDAVSource.DB72A0D3-A7F5-42AA-B8C0-B9F DD21F52AE.plist

The CVnt plist is from an app that I added long after I noticed this problem. The problem was the same before and after installing that app.

Whenever I run the Network Utility following a wake from sleep on typical ports, I get this:

Whatever the issue may be, it apparently starts on sleep because Power Nap has yet to work. I have had this issue since installing Mountain Lion and would appreciate any help.

Also experiencing the loss of IMAP account connections after wake from sleep. Except it always happens with my gmail account, and only sometimes (like when I "force" sleep) with my me.com account. All my software is up to date. It seems to happen on my iMac, but not my Macbook Air. At least, not consistently.

This is very annoying, and I hope Apple will fix it soon.

I'm also having this problem. It started a week ago, although I upgraded to Mountain Lion months ago. It seems to only affect my 2011 iMac, not my Air, which is also running Mountain Lion. I do have Google Drive, and I do have Dropbox (and NAV, which someone mentions above.) But all of these things were in place for months, and this sleep/mail stops pulling in messages problem started only recently.

I would also say this problem may have diminished slightly. Possibly the 10.8.2 update did actually help a bit. Possibly I don't hit the "Get mail" button immediately after waking the mac from sleep any more, so the system has time to properly sort out its network connections and stuff before Mail contacts the gmail IMAP server. Possibly the installation of other stuff on the system has slightly altered the way it responds when waking up, with similar effect.

Anyway, a new one today - Mail was receiving mails quite happily (after waking up this morning), and then suddently the little connection error icon (triangle sign) appeared....!!!!

Another data point to add to this: I was having this same problem, that every time I would open my MBA (2012) to wake it from sleep, the Mail program would not connect (I use IMAP). However, I recenlty purchased a new router and with that, it works fine. To summarize:

Old Router: Belkin F5D8326-4 v3000

New Router: ASUS RT N56U

I connect via wifi and both simply had default settings. I should note that when I used my computer at work with our corporate wifi, the Mail program worked just fine. So, it may be something conflicting with router settings.

The new ASUS is giving me other problems, so I am currently back with the Belkin. I might fiddle with its settings and see if I can get this to work.

OK potamus, you got me thinking about the router/modem. A while back I had the Safari history problem where the back button would bring up an older history, eg After linking to article on a news site, clicking or swiping back would bring up yesterday's news (from cache).

I thought this might be a date & time issue somewhere in the system, and on further investigation I found my Mac clock was out of sync with my modem clock. After syncing them up the problem went away.

I've also been having this same connection issue with Mail after waking from sleep on my Mac Pro. I found a fix some months ago (to do with notification preferences) which worked fro a while, but after upgrading to 10.8.2 the problem returned, and I couldn't find the original fix. So after looking at your post, I checked my modem clock again and it was out of sync. The NTP (time) server on the router/modem displayed a different date and time than my Mac.

I decided to find an NTP server that was local to my region and set both my Mac Time & Date server and the modem Time & Date server to the same server address and of course they both show the same time. Voila, the Mail connection issue has been fixed.

I suggest everyone check their clock settings on both thier Mac & Modem to make sure they are in sync.

Hope this helps.

I have had these problems as well and seemed to have fixed it

Specs:

2012 11" Macbook Air

Mountain lion 10.8.2

Boblite router/modem

I upgraded the modem's firmware and it fixed the problem. Note, I also had problems with a Belkin modem as well. Boblite (iiNet) is made by Belkin. Perhaps this is the issue.

Hope this helps others with this frustrating problem

i connect to a time capsule (7.6.1) and i experience this problem on both 2.4 and 5 ghz channels.

imap (gmail) fail is happening on my rMBP(13) 10.8.2 post sleep.

i have tried an array of different fixes with no luck.

my guess is that it tries to connect before the internet is available and fails. weirdly, the cloud imap works ok :|

restarting mail solves the issue.

if anyone has any other suggestions, they would be very welcome..

The thing is, I have (or had) the gmail and other imaps fail when my standard POP account did fine, which argues that the connection was indeed established and imap accounts were still struggling. I use an Apple base station - about 3 years old - and I'm not sure there's any way (or need) to change settings for its internal clock; I suspect that is done automatically in my setup. The same issue recurred a few days ago, but only once, and only for gmail, so I suspect something at gmail was causing the problem that time. I don't think we have solved the mystery yet, although it's good that for many people, things are at least better after jiggling the handle a bit.

i have a white 13 macbook connected to the same time capsule.

same power settings.

same mail settings.

both at 10.8.2 and 6.2.

i close the lid on both of them, at the same time.

reopen at the same time 30' later.

old macbook connects.

retina imap hangs.

how do you explain that?

i think it's a bug as it's not even searching for an imap account. it just comes up as red and stays red in connection doctor.

when mail is restarted and connection doctor is launched imap connection tries to connect.

when it is just woken up it doesn't.
