Won't start up; charger blinking orange

I don't know how many like you would get for this quick fix. It happened to me today...my laptop was fully charged and my wife moved to the next room and screen went blank. For me it was blinking green instead of blinking orange. I am assuming blinking orange for battery that is depleted whereas blinking green is for battery that is changed but not supplying power to the motherboard.

In parallel i called up apple store & they gave me an appointment tomorrow @ 4.00 PM whereas I have an international flight to catch the next day. They would have definitely charged a lot of money for this asking to replace parts. You saved my time....thanks a Ton!

I need your help,

Here is my issue : One day my MBP was telling me to replace my battery " Replace your battery soon " and off course I did not replace it.

Now my MBP isn't booting and when I plug the charger in, the charger light is blinking sometimes orange sometimes green.

I noticed on the left edge, all the lights indicating the battery life ( 8 smalls lights ) are blinking green. As soon as I press and hold the power button, these 8 lights stop blinking and start back when I release the power button.

I tried several times the fix you all did and nothing seems to help.

Do I need a new battery in order to use my laptop back or Should I be able to use my MBP with dead battery using the charger only ?

I also had the issue (Macbook powered down and power cable light blinking orange) happen when plugging in a 3rd party lightning cable for my iPhone 5s while my Macbook Pro was asleep. I heard it instantly power down (whirring slowing from fans).

However, dbartul's fix worked exactly as so many others said. It is tremendously easy compared to other fixes and upgrades I've done (one was replacing the bulb in a Macbook screen...not recommended). First time I opened this MacBook Pro of mine.

When I rebooted and started iTunes again, I plugged the same 3rd party cable and it didn't have the same effect. I'm wondering if its only when the MacBook Pro is asleep or maybe the connector is just fidgety and will randomly cause problems (as others have described). The issue is definitely related to plugging into the USB but I'm not sure its just a 3rd party cable that would do it. It seems there is a safety breaker that trips the system when it tries to manage the power supply to the USB.

My advice would be to only use 3rd party cables for charging and use the original Apple cable to connect to the MacBook. Unless someone has other advice or evidence that its only when the Macbook is asleep?

This is the same thing as an SMC reset when you could remove the battery which has been quite a while. Apparently the keyboard reset is not quite the same thing.

I Had the same issue and tried to fix it now. My macbook pro is now working for i have followed the instructions correctly. But then i had another problem, my keyboard is not working ever since my macbook worked. Please help.. What can i do?

Have a Early 2011 MBP. Laptop was dead when I came home. Tried SMC reset, tried disconnecting battery and neither work. Has newer OEM battery and have tried two different charging cables. Is it possible that the MagSafe DC-In Board adapter is damaged or not working properly?

I don't know how much I can help you, but I've realized that most of the time, the battery fix only works when the charger is blinking when you plug it in. Check if yours does blink. It might be hard to see so you might want to cup your hands over. And if the charger isn't blinking that could be the reason. Maybe. 😝

I Have tried everything.. Read and searching for help to awake my mbp.. This is the one that so helP.. Thank you thank you thank you.! I dont have to send my mbp to the shop for repair.. I do it myself and it's already back.. dbartul you're owesome. Love you.!

I have a solution! Three weeks ago I purchased a replacement charger from Apple and it just began the blinking "green and amber" after working like a charm for the first 3 weeks. I disconnected the "cord extender" and reinstalled the plug on the Charger....plugged it back into to the wall and it WORKED! I just will not be using the "cord extender".....

I have the exact problem! Last night, I plugged in a USB Camera, My mac showed a kernel panic (first time ever) It wouldn't restart. I tried plugging it in and fixing it this morning, But the charger started faintly blinking green and orange, something I've never seen before. I don't want to take it apart. Please Help!!! I'm so worried, I hold the power button, Nothing!!! Not even the little white light on the side! I'm so worried! If I really need, I'll take it apart, I'll do almost anything to bring it back to life!! HELP!!

Oh my GOD! Thank you thank you soooo much! I am a teenager so as teenagers do my Macbook Pro 2009 got taken away except it was accidentally left untouched for over a year! I got it back and it would not turn on and I was panicking and I saw this yesterday but was too nervous to open the back but tonight I got bored and nervously tried it. It worked the second time when I took someone's comment on leaving it disconnected for about a minute. Thank you SOOOO MUCH!

Abit of info... My MacBook crashed when I plugged in my iPhone to back it up. I do suspect the USB cable may either be faulty or a counterfeit cable 😟

the screwdrivers needed are for sale at Screwfix in a fab forged steel kit for £9.99. It's the Phillips PH000 head that worked for the screw heads used.

My daughter's mid 2012 13 "MBP started this behavior yesterday. I tried resetting SMC, etc. and nothing. I made a genius bar appt. but continued searching and came across this post, worked like a charm!! Saved me a trip to Apple Store, I am SO grateful!

Hey Spud, I have the same problem as most of these guys n gals. MBP 13" 2012 won't turn on, with an orangey/greeney light blinking on the magsafe charger. I've tried everything Apple suggests, as well as SMC resets, and disconnecting the battery. Any other ideas? I'm too broke to take it to Apple atm. Thanks
