Update Iphone 3Gs Software

I tried to update my iphone 3Gs which us on 4.2.1 software, i wanted to update to 5.1.1 software, however my itunes say the software is up to date. can i ask how do i change ti iOS 5. my iphone model is MB046LL, itunes is the latest.

Your phone is a 3G not a 3GS. It can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1
