How do I re-register my email account?

The account that was set up when I bought this new Mac has frozen. It stopped receiving mail and sending mail in June this year. I can not evan delete the mail that I have! Can I delete this email and re-register? fairly new to all this and having a lot of probs with a full start disc too, but hoping to solve that when i get an external hard drive tomorrow to store my photos
