Locked keyboard!! Heeeeelp please

MY kitten has walked on my iBook g4 keyboard and I think she's locked the key board. Any suggestions how to unlock it? Many thanks in advance. Caroline

Hi, to put your mind at rest, there is no sharing of anything except bluetooth. I hardly ever use it these days now I have an iphone and I can download photos easily, so I have disabled that option!

At this late stage, it may be a wierd question, but how do I delete messages from console? I can clear the list without altering anything, but I think I should be able to delete them. I highlight lines but the move to trash icon stays grey.

I would delete via the omni-sweep dialogue box but I'm terrified that I'll delete something vital. I've cleaned up files a little as you suggested, there is now 4.06 GB now!!

Tomcat still opens when I click on the email link to get to this page, still no clue why 😟

Hi, long time no speak! Sorry to leave the thread for a while, I have had too many things interfering with my private time!

With the Tomcat thing, I cannot find out why this happens, since it is intermittent and I'm not overly bothered by the inconvenience of not being able to open pages from a link occasionally, I'm using my desktop to contact you here today, I accessed this page via the link from email so I'll look at the settings to see if I can see a difference and amend accordingly - if I can see what's different! I'm awaiting an external hard drive to back up all my stuff, then perhaps I can reset the iBook to factory settings? Would this work? Can I do that and if so how? Would this erase all my personal settings/personal details/everything I would rather no one could access if I scrapped the machine? I think it is probably nearing the end of it's life so I want to be ready if anything catastrophic happens!

I can't tell you how grateful I am for all your help and suggestions so far, thank you

Hi Caroline, 2 ways to go...

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

3. Click the Erase tab.

4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.

5. Select your Mac OS X volume.

6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion do a new install.

Or...

Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

In the same pref pane highlight your old account, click the little minus icon, then use Disk Utility to Secure Erase Free Space.

Hi, thanks for all the above! I bought the iBook second hand so no installation disks!

I think I will have a go at the 2nd option you suggest!!

I'll let you know how it goes.

As an aside, how do I set my preferences on here so I don't get dozens of emails from all these discussion threads? I have every choice set as 'no' but I still can't stop them. Obviously I want to hear answers to my questions, but only my topics. It's driving me nuts :(

Thanks for all your help and suggestions so far.

Caroline

Hi, yes I have saved everything I've selected. I have put 'no' to all the email notification choices. I have looked at all the pages associated with 'my stuff' and chosen as complete privacy as I can select. I only wish to receive notification of discussions I have initiated but I cannot see where else I can veto email contact!! I would be grateful for any hints. I have not yet had a chance to delete my account on my iBook. Hopefully I can do that this week. Thanks again. Caroline.
