Mail settings AT&T DSL Mac OS 10.4.11 MacBook Pro

I had to do a complete re-install of my system after a crash system from apple CD-ROM OS X10.4.5 and updated from download to OSx 10.4.11.

Prior to this Mail worked fine.

I use Mail 2.1.3 (753.1) live in Northen California

When I reopened the application Mail three problems happened:

- could not import info from the previously archived mail boxes on external drive

- could not create new mailbox in the application Mail, only Smartboxes

- could not send email (I can receive emails)

depending on my settings I get either the error message:

"message cannot be appended to the outbox "

and if I enter the settings server 465 use SSL in outgoing Mail server smtp.att.yahoo.com

and in advanced: port 995 use SSL and password authentification, I do not get a message error, but the email goes into the sent menu of the Mail application but the email is not actually sent

IN Finder, do a Get Info on that External Mail folder... you did choose the top Mail folder?, & see if the new you has R&W rights.

In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?

Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

A month or 2 ago Yahoo Mail was hacked for about 450K eNMails, login to you Yahoo/ATT account in WebMail & change the Password.

What a fast and precise answer, thanks a lot !

You made me discover the Connection doctor :

The POP connection was green ok but not the smtp : red so I filled up a few missing information until it was happy and turned green !.

Then did the check again : RED Mail was unable to connect to the internet click assist me etc. did it again but network diagnosis repeats that the connection works normally, and all the list is green on the left.

So progress but still not there

I will do the change of password and also check the for the R&W rights, and keep you posted on the resiults

Thanks a lot, until soon !

Oh and the new Mail folder has ownership and permission printed in black but the scroll menu for "Read &Write" is in Grey ... does it mean it I do not have these rights ?

What do you mean by you did choose the top Mail folder?

BDAqua,

I followed your suggestion

Those blue icons are actually folders. 🙂

For some reason, the group that you're a member to has No Access!?

Unlock the lock on Pop-sonia & change the Group to have R&W, Apply to enclosed items, restart Mail.

I do not know which group I am supposed to be a member of I choose admin as default ...

I have two paths to Mail I do not know why it is so, I applied your suggestions to both, the following way:

Macintosh HD / Library / Mail / AccountTypes/ com.mac.mailaccounts /

Folder Mail permissions:

Ownership and permissions: You can read and write

Detail: Owner: my name access : read and write

Group : admin: access read and write

Others : No access

Apply to enclosed items: done

................................................................................ .....................................................

Macintosh HD / Users/ home folder my name / Library / Mail / POP- my email address

Folder Mail permissions:

Ownership and permissions: You can read and write

Detail: Owner: my name access : read and write

Group : admin: access read and write

Others : No access

Apply to enclosed items: done

................................................................................ .......................................................

I restarted computer

- tried to create a new mailbox, message is :

Mailbox Creation Failed

Unable to create path ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/hj.mbox.

- sent an email to myself:

it went into "Sent" but it does not appear into "Inbox" so I do not know where it is

Do you understand what is going wrong ?

Thank you
