FCPX makes me sit around doing nothing longer than any other render in my life.
The beach ball.

The beach ball.
I've imported maybe 20 videos but only use a few second of each on the timeline and I only have 2 long audio tracks that I have broken up a few times but I don't know how to count the tracks and when your are making constant blades and snippets.
Do no install MacKeeper on your computer.
So my video is too complicated for FCPX to run at all, yet it is used to produce feature films? I don't even have multicam!
I suspect the worst, a memory leak.
Thanks Tom, that seemed like a set up!
What Tom said…I was looking for possible sources of problems – not solutions – when I inquired whether you had MacKeeper.
Rachel, You mentioned your IT department. Did they install FCP or did you download directly? (Reason I ask is recall one person who had an army of people on these boards trying to solve his problems…and the culprit turned out to be his IT person's installer.)
Russ
How do you check for a memory leak???
3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
Running a Seagate GoFlex USB 3.0 1TB
You have not given fundamental information yet. What are the exact specifications of your media, and your project properties? What exactly is the media and how did it get into your computer? Post screen shots of the media information.
Direct download from the Apple Store. And IT installed the extra 8 GB of RAM for me and had done so many time as he is a Mac Specialist and one of many on our campus.
Looks OK, but need info on the media, the video clips you're working with. Full details video and audio and how it got into your computer, where it came from.
I'm not sure exactly what your asking but I have maybe 5 clips shot on a
Sony Handycam HDR-SR12 Full HD 1080 120 Mega Pixels
How do I find more info on my media source?
Open a clip in the QT player and take a screen shot of the movie inspector. It will probably be OK, but it's good to know exactly what we're dealing with. If the files are OK, then the problem is more serious.
Assuming there is no networking involved in your system, then most likely it's a software conflict and the system will have to be rebuilt to find it.
That's not the movie inspector in the QuickTime player. This indicates your video is 1440x1080 not 1920x1080, so-called Full HD. It also doesn't give the frame rate. The project properties do not appear to match your media. Please use the movie inspector in the QT player.
