I have a Canon MX870 and I get that error *all*the*time*! I don't think it is Canon's fault for the simple reason that we are a mixed OS family. I print from Windows (never have a problem,) I print from linux (I have to rebuild the driver every time I upgrade my kernel, but you know what? I never lose connectivity between kernel upgrades.) This is an Apple wireless printer annoyance. And not specific to Canon or HP.

HP or Epson or Samsung. Personally I like the Epson WF-3640 All-in-one for photo printing and scanning.

For everyday black and white laser printing I like the Samsung SL-M2835DW

All of these work with iPad , iPhone, Macs, Windows PC's, and Linux computers.

Ethernet , Wifi , Duplex printing and NFC built in. And ink refills are inexpensive.

The HP is more expensive to own.

All of these are very easy to setup and are supported in MacOS and MS-Windows.

I like Canon printers/scanners personally. I've had three over the past 10 years. My 'newest' (no longer sold, I don't believe, but still supported) is a Canon Pixma MG8120. Unlike HP, Canon seems commited to supporting Macs, which is why I've stuck with them. Visit Canon on the web to compare products and then search for the least expensive price that you can find.

Just my 2¢...

DO NOT buy an HP printer if you are using a Mac. I used an HP 4280 Printer/Scanner - it was actually GIVEN to me by the "genius" folks at the Apple store when I bought my Mac . . . as a promotion.

it worked for a while (I use a wireless network in my home) - then every time I tried to print something I got a message stating my printer was "offline." The printer was clearly turned on and working fine, and attempts to repair the problem by rebooting the computer and rebooting the printer and then reloading the printer software didn't work. Going to the HP site to troubleshoot, they offer a software "patch" for this problem, but the PATCH IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR MACS!!!!!!!!!

Don't support HP. I actually like my printer, and when it worked, it was great. But they don't give a CR*P about Mac or Mac users . . .

OK, here goes. Remember that these instructions are for an HP Photosmart 7510 all-in-one wireless printer.

The first thing I did was disable the low-power sleep mode of the printer. I can't remember how to do this, but you should be able to find the information readily on the internet.

You will then need to make changes in 2 places, the printer and your router.

1) I'll proivide some screenshots below. You need to go into the printer setup and select networking. From there you get a choice for "Automatic" or "Manual". The default is Automatic. Change this to manual.

2) Provide an "IP Address" that is in the range of addresses you have selected for your home network.

3) Bring up your router manager window in Safari. Mine is a Netgear router, but yours will have similar functionality.

4) Reserve the address you picked for the printer and save the router settings.

5) You have now disabled DHCP for the printer and, in this case, assigned it an IP address of 192.168.1.110

6) Restart the printer and you should be good to go. This address is now reserved for the printer, and the DHCP server in the router will not try to assign it to anything else.

What the?! Man, you're the best for putting this up. I'll pursue it.

In the meantime, my wife had some luck. We had basically had the same experience that BlackstonMDJDhad. Our printer was great for about a week, then it wouldn't print wirelessly. So we called HP, who told us to call our local ISP. We thought we were getting the blowoff, but we did call Cox just for giggles. Well, they told us to reboot our router and cable modem and boom, it worked. Why? Well, it's just one of those things. Apparently when you do things like add new printers, upgrade to new operating systems and such, you make subtle changes to your network configurations and... aw, ****, I don't know exactly.

But I'm still swtiching from DHCP to static IP. Just to be sure.

I don't have a home office - nor do I have any experience in printers the way some reviewers do. When it comes to printing, all I care is that it actually prints and doesn't jam.

Printers are so inexpensive these days and my old printer was a great Cannon that did it's job - cost about 80 bucks when I purchased. Then I bought an iPad and tried ALL the free printing apps - and even paid for an app that swore it would work with any printer. NOPE.

So, when this printer came up to test - I jumped on it! WOW. Not only is it so easy to set up, even I can do it (didn't even need the disk). It prints anywhere from my iPad and my iPhone. I also love the double sided printing and never realized how much double siding printing I actually do. It's great for long recipes. The photo aspect of it is sharp and clear. I LOVE The scanner and though I rarely use a fax - it's nice to know it's available so I don't have to drive to my local media store. For the price - it's amazing.

It's also super fast compared to my Cannon and super quiet.

I've started recommending this to my friends - even though they may not do much printing - it's amazing how much you'll start printing once you have this super hero. Kind of like my Kindle - I read way more books now than I did when reading hard/paper backs!!!.

How is your printer doing? I'm thinking of getting a new printer to go with my Macbook Pro - and don't have a clue. I just bought a new Nikon camera yesterday - and would like a good quality job on the occasional photo-print - but its not the b-all. I have an old Epson DX4400 and it is slow as a snail and quality rubbish - and of course its not wireless.
