OS 10.3.9 wont' burn CD's but will burn DVD's

Can anyone please help me...
For some reason, my drives won't burn CDs but will burn DVDs.
My internal is a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-117D. I thought it was the drive, but then I installed a Lacie 48x24x48 and it gives the same error message. So it must be software right?? (I'm using CD-R discs like I always have)

Both drives load the blank disc, ask me to name it, and will "copy" files to it. Then at various stages of the burning process it will give a message that says; "An error occured while burning the disc. This disc cannot be used".

Can anyone help me please? Thanks

It could well be the settings you have for burning. So, what software package do you use?

Hi Cornelius,
I'm just using the OSX internal burning software.
All my problems started when I upgraded ITunes and Quicktime several months ago. Then my Limewire wouldn't work and I couldn't verify or repair discs in Disc Utility. I thought the burning CD's problem was unrelated (it may be) and was my drive. Though it still burns DVD's, I hooked up an external Lacie drive I have and that drive won't burn CD's either. (same error message).
I've downgraded ITunes 6.0.2 and Quicktime 7.0.1 and Liimewire now works and I can repair permissions, but this is still an an resolved problem.
It's important, i'm a graphic designer and I need to be able to.
Any advice you can give to me?? I would really appreciate it.

I am not familiar with burning from the OS X internal burning software as I use Toast Titanium 6 almost exclusively. I am not suggesting you run out and buy Toast, as that may not be the issue with which you are faced. What I am saying is that I am not familiar with the software to be able to help you troubleshoot.

In terms of iTunes and Permissions, have you tried the workaround. It has helped most people who have tried it. Here are two versions, and although I have not used either, I have read of others who have and found them to work.

Here's what I did, and it worked fine.

1) Move iTunes onto the Desktop.
2) Run Disk Utility
3) Go to HD>Library>Receipts and trash all iTunes .pkg files EXCEPT for iTunesX.pkg and iTunesPhoneDriver.pkg
4) empty Trash.
5) move iTune from Desktop back to 'Applications'.

Hey presto. you should now be able to repair permissions again.

1. Navigate to the /Library/Receipts/ folder.
2. Locate the iTunes.pkg and iTunesX.pkg files and move them to the Desktop.
3. Run Disk Utility and repair permissions.
4. Move the .pkg files back into the /Library/Receipts/ folder.

You might also try Repair Disk in Disk Utility.

Apart from that I am not sure where else to go for the moment.

I'm still hoping someone can help me with this.
Why I can't burn CD's but can burn DVDs. My description is fully explained below.
All the info from Cornilus posted doesn't really appy, I've got my G5 where it will repair disc permissions.
Has anyone heard of this problem before??
IS ANYONE OUT THERE???
