Virex and eUpdates

Can you get either Virex or the eUpdate to run manually? If so, check under System Preferences -> Accounts and then go to the Startup Items tab. See if anything from Virex is listed there. HTH.

Are you sure you have Virex installed? It is usually installed in the /Applications directory, and does not come standard with the OS X installation, it must be installed separately. If you're doing a complete Erase & Install and then updating to 10.2.8 you'll have to re-install Virex as well. HTH.

Virex must be purchased. Check this site. If you already have a Virex purchased you can get the latest virus definitions here. Otherwise it there is a link to where to purchase Virex. Remember, if you want to purchase Virex to get the version compatible with your OS. It will not be the latest one. HTH.

If you want a free anti-virus program you can check out ClamXav. I've not used it, but others in this forum have and have recommded it. HTH.

If you want to upgrade, I believe you have to purchase an update. Before updating though I would check the minimum requirements and make sure that the newer versions of Virex will run on your machine.

If you purchase Virex from McAfee you should be able to get virus updates directly from them. If you don't want to do that you can take a look at the ClamXav (mentioned above), at this site: http://www.markallan.co.uk/clamXav/index.php?page=dl. However, the only version that will run on Jaguar is the no longer supported 0.8.7c. HTH.

I don't know much about computers, so please bear with me. I know that this is about Virex, but this is where it all began.
Okay, first, my computer was running very slow and Firefox kept quitting on me, so I went to Disk Utility for the repair.
Well, for some reason, it would never complete the verification or repair. If I stopped it to start again, it would freeze up. I even let the repair go all night and it still did not complete! (it would always be just a sliver left to finish)
Then, I went under Disk Utility help and it told me to run my Install and Restore CD.
Well, I accidentally did a reinstall instead of restore and now all of my favorites and books are gone as well as my Virex! But, when 'Softwear Updates' popped up with a list of updates, one of them was the latest Security Update.
My Virex shield is no longer in my dock, and everytime I try to relaunch it from my Mac HD folder, it pops up and then disappears from the dock. 😟
Now I'm afraid to do another restore for fear of what might happen next. I do remember doing a restore a couple of years ago and my Virex was never affected.
Do I have any type of security running or am I just blowing in the wind?

Despite having something to do with Virex, I would highly recommend starting a new topic. Your problems sound quite different the problems listed above, and starting a new topic will get you more help. Unfortunately I don't know too much about restoring from the disks, but a new topic will get more responses. HTH.

Thank you, but my main concern is about Virex-I'll get over losing my 'Favorites' and my online books. Do you think that my Virex is still running but no longer in the dock since 'Softwear Updates' shows that it has been updated?
