I don't really want to put the NEF's on the iPad I just want to convert at download to jpegs to be able to display the images at the event. I have since read additional horror story saying that the iPad wont recognize any D800 files since nikon has switched to MTP (a newer version of PTP) and that I couldn't even download if I were to shoot NEF + Jpeg. And I thought Apple was on the cutting edge???

In my case, I have a memory card much larger than I need so I always shoot "JPG+NEF" and I'm always covered. Your reference to Apple and "cutting edge" is unwarranted. There isn't anything that Apple can do without receiving documentation from Nikon. I had one of my Nikons (D5100) for several months before Apple or Adobe could handle their RAW files. My only option was an Adobe utility to convert to DNG.

Ok maybe the cutting edge remake is kind of a low blow, but iPad doesn't support anything larger than SDHC (32GB) wich is only 401 shoots NEF WITHOUT jpegs. When I'm out on a boat for six hours shooting a major regatta I'll have three times that many images, or more. Ski racing will yield about 600-800 shots. My G5 is now a boat anchor, whille I've rebuit my PC 3 times to keep up. What are my options?
