Why can't I choose the pick up from store option when trying to preorder the iphone 5?
But they're OK with the chaos of hundreds of people standing in line to buy the phone without preordering it and dealing with the Model Choices, Eligibility Checks, and Credit Card Processing ? ? Yeah, that makes sense...
Why can't you order it from your carrier?
Why can't you wait 1 day, 3 days, a week, a month after the device is released to buy one?
Why do you have to pay for it?
Why is the sky blue?
Any other stupid questions that haven't been covered?
These forums are not for whining by fan boys that need to have the latest and greatest device. They are a user to user technical support forum.
Do you have a technical support question? If not... go away.
Wow, what a mature answer to a valid question a lot of people have. Who's the whining fanboy ? ? No wonder you Apple Fanboys have such a childish reputation. Did widdle Vdub wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning ? ? Grow up.
Come on Diesel, no reason for that. I myself am curious if I would be better to try my local Apple store next Saturday or Sunday to pick up a phone instead of waiting till Oct. 5th, as I leave for vacation that morning. Anyone have prior experiance with in-store purchase in the days following a launch? Not all of us are as enligtened as Diesel on these subjects.I usually have had to wait a few months to upgrade, but this time I get lucky.
Any constructive help is appreciated.
Pre-orders not eligible for in-store pick up. I Have a whole saturday to kill so I guess I'll be spending it in the mall waiting my tur at the Apple store. Otherwise I wait 2-3 weeks for a pre order phone.
I don't understand why they don't give priority to those who have pre-ordered on launch day. They make those of us who didn't order in the middle of the night wait several weeks while they make sure those waiting in the stores get theirs first. Oh well.
Have you ever been in an Apple store on Launch Day? I have and it's total chaos. It's also chaos when there are two lines - one for those who are hoping to get one of the launch items and one for those who pre-ordered. Invariably, folks get in the wrong line and it's just generally a big mess.
What I WOULD like to see is some sort of "loyalty" program for those who have logevity with Apple. It would be lovely if we got some sort of preference to get new products. I know - the record keeping would be costly for Apple, but it would be a nice perk for those of us who stuck by Apple during the lean years.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to answer me without being snide or condescending you were very helpful and I do understand that the crush will already be enormous next Friday and didn't expect to be able to get it then...its just the option was there and I thought perhaps it would give me another day to pick it up...to the snarky one you are why apple gets a snobby reputation it does NOT deserve almost everyone else was kind and helpful which has always been my experience with them. AND I don't need technical help but assumed there would be someone in this forum with the same or similar question about the site...Again Thank You to all the helpful people out there...we can't allow one bad Apple Fan to spoil the whole bunch and you guys did not!
Well said gaylin. The option was on the pre-order screen, so of course people (like me) are going to question why we couldn't pick that option. If it was never intended to be an option, I would think the geniouses at Apple would have taken it off that PreOrder screen. I too thank all the polite, non snarky questions and responses.

I too had the option to pick up at a store but didn't select it (ordered at 730am EDT). I also ordered from the Apple Store app on my iPhone. It was a very quick process.
If you are not seeing it now with new orders, it sounds like Apple reached their anticipated capacities and removed the option.
When the 4 and 4S were released, some people who preordered actually received them BEFORE the in store sale date. So, with such a highly complex supply chain with so much demand so quick, it's a miracle that so many millions are sold in the first week.
Thatchcote,
you are absolutely right. I was at the apple store for the iphone 4. Total chaos, there was one line, then a security guard very quitely told people who were at the back of the line to start a new line. Never mind that we were in line since 3 am, and those who got to go to the front of the reserved line just got there at 8.
The people who were in line infront of me did not have reserved iphones. I went back to the mall at 7:30 pm, they were still in line! those poor people!
It goes without saying that I am having my iphone 5 delivered to my house. I am more then willing to wait until October 5th to have it delivered.
How could anyone in this user to user technical support forum possibly know?
A Lot of people have this question, no need to be rude.
Because Apple doesn't want the chaos this causes in stores on opening day for a new product. It's their game, their rules.
