iPhone 5 AT&T preorder status thread

Hi All,


I preordered 2 iPhone 5s thru AT&T last night (around 12:47am PST) and was sent the first emails (each email for each order) notifying that they should be delivered to me by 9/21/2012. About an hour later, I received second emails indicating that the orders are processed. Tracking numbers still say "pending shipment", but all look good so far.

I ordered my white iPhone 5 on 14 Sep at my local AT&T store. Since then I've been checking the website and all it would tell me is "processing." I called AT&T, they are as clueless and useless as it gets, they basically told me that I should receive my phone between 4-18 Oct. My funds on my card were released this morning and hasn't been charged again yet. I went to the link above that was provided for order status and it says "pending shipment, 1 ordered, 0 shipped, 1 backorder." I haven't received any emails from AT&T or Apple since ordering the phone. Since my funds were released, does this mean my phone is going to be shipped soon? Does anyone know or can help? I just checked through that link and it finally shows me something, it says my phones backordered at the moment and still processing. I am hoping that changes today or tomorrow because as I ahev seen with other people I ordered it at 6 am PST (before 9 AM PST) and have recieved two emails including the one last night that said it should arrive as early as 9/21/12.


I talked to a rep on the phone who was nto very helpful and told me she could only say that everyone is getting quoted at 14-21 now becuase they don't know. Then I did a live chat and was told that I should have my phone on 9/21/12 because I placed it prior to them running out. I am hoping that the last chat rep is right and that I will get a notification today or tomorrow of it being shipped and no longer back ordered. I was also told that I may not recieve an email notification of it shipping or a status change until today or even tomorrow.

Mine were released Monday night but it's still shipping, (I have my tracking #) so this isn't indicative of anything. Standard e-tailer process is to auth a card, if it's good then proceed to ship, once shipped then charge the card the amount. If the auth is still there, it's converted to a charge, if it's been enough days for the auth to drop and funds to show available then it'll just be a straight charge.

My husband and I ordered through AT&T around 6 AM EST on 9/14. Money was taken our account three hours later. We received two emails (one per phone) from Premier saying that our phone was reserved and we should receive it as soon as the 21st and they provided our order number and link. Last night, they sent two new emails with a new link and new order number (https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status). The email read as follows:


Thank you for your recent purchase from the AT&T Premier Online Store. We're pleased that you chose AT&T as your service provider.

We wanted to confirm that your order is reserved and should arrive as soon as September 21, 2012.

As a reminder, you will receive an email from the AT&T Premier Team confirming shipment along with the carrier information and tracking number to track your shipment online.


This morning I checked status and it read as pending. Later on in the morning, I checked status on both phones and it read as Shipped. However, there is no tracking number and the money was release back into my account. 😕 I know that when we first order the phone, the confirmation page said our account will get charged once the phone ships. So not sure why they held the payment amount and then realeased it back into our account.

Why did they send it? Maybe they didn't like me checking order status as often as I was.

Today i checked my order status using the site https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status and it shows that quantity ordered 1 , back ordered 0, shipped 0, and says in progress.


I dont know what that means. According to some post if you ordered your iphone before 9am PST you are supposed to get it by 21st.


In my case i am confused.

This is how credit card auths work. If the charge isn't placed on the card soon enough (usually 2-5 days depending on the company) then the auth drops and the funds are released back into the account. AT&T isn't charging until it ships, so preordering a week in advance is going to see pretty much everyone's authorizations release.


This is standard across web retail.
