Hi friends,
I just went through the process of switching my wife's iphone 4 and my iphone 4 from ATT to StraightTalk. I know I'm reiterating some things that were mentioned previously, but my experience may be helpful. I did my phone first. The transition went perfectly smoothly. I first did the UNLOCKIT method, then uninstalled that when I realized it might interfere with the TMobile sim swap (it does the same thing, only unlockit doesn't change the MMS settings). After the swap, everything works perfectly. My wife's phone didn't go so well. With the swap I couldn't get the data preferences to appear, and I toiled for hours retracing my steps, only to learn that the good people at ATT LIED to me about having unlocked the phone. AT&T COULD NOT THEN CONFIRM OR DENY THAT MY PHONE WAS UNLOCKED. THEY SAID, "Well, if you're able to make a call on StraightTalk, your phone is unlocked." THAT IS OBVIOUSLY INCORRECT, SINCE STRAIGHTTALK USES AN ATT-COMPATIBLE CARD. FINALLY I CALLED APPLE AND THEY WERE VERY RESPONSIVE AND HELPFUL. THE PHONE IS WELL OUT OF WARRANTY, AND APPLE IMMEDIATELY CONFIRMED THAT IT HAD NEVER BEEN UNLOCKED. THEY EVEN TOLD ME TO CALL THEM BACK IF ATT FAILED TO FIGURE IT OUT. Apple does the unlocking, by the way, not ATT. Anyway, the point being that if the TMobile card doesn't allow you to unlock the data settings, your phone is not unlocked. If you're a current (or fortunate enough to be a FORMER) ATT customer, you're only choice for VALID & TRUSTWORTHY confirmation in these matters in APPLE. If you're with another carrier, congrats, you're not the SUCKER that many of us are/were.
