mms on iphone 4s with straighttalk

I have a factory unlocked i-phone 4s and I am using a Straight Talk sim card. This has worked well for several months. Last week I started having trouble with my 4G connection. I called Apple and they walked me through re-setting the Network settings. The 4G connection worked great, except I could no longer send or receive mms messages. My data network tab is not on the phone. Apple said that it was my carrier but after speaking with Straight Talk I was told that the problem was with my phone. I took my phone to the Apple store and they ran diagnostics and could not find a problem. A friend with the same phone, except they have an AT&T sim card, put her sim card in my phone and once again, the mms messages did not work. Any suggestions????

KiltedTim, if an iPhone was not supported on Straight Talk, that means the phone will not operate on the network. No calls, no texting, no data, nothing. No service. Your assertion is incorrect.

With that said, my iPhone 4s I brought from AT&T works flawlessly, all functions. Straight Talk resells AT&T service, which does support iPhone, that's why it works.

I, my friends and co-workers, and thousands of others, brought their phones to Straight Talk from outside carriers and are having perfect success. And the ST website provides instructions on how to configure the APN settings for the particular SIM (AT&T or T-mobile compatible) that you have ordered.

With all this said, Straight Talk did get their act together, and have the proper APN settings on the SIMs they are currently selling. I just ordered a new AT&T SIM so I could have LTE support on the new Nexus 5. Note the changed settings for AT&T. You may need to correct some settings in your phone if you have not factory restored it after changing SIMs:

Data APN: tfdata

MMS APN: tfdata

MMSC: http://mms-tf.net

MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com

MMS Max Message Size: 1048576

These entries are provided on the Straight Talk website in the support section.

GSD I understand and hear you. How can I fix the issue I have reset the network settings, done the sim swap, deleted any attached profile, purchased another SIM card, used the ST apnupdater and everything works except the mms. I can send an mms but I can not receive an mms. I am growing more and more frustrated. The only thing I have not done is totally wipe the phone and do a restore from iCloud then reset the APN settings. I do see in other blogs I am not alone in this issue I just don't know why it is happening only to some and not all. This tells me that there has to be a fix. Please advise.

KiltedTim - Umm.. whatever dude. I've looked through all your posts and you offer no assistance whatsoever, you just bleat your assertions repeatedly.

Orangemanz, I would recommend factory restoring your phone, then trying this procedure again. I don't remember what kind of iPhone you have, but this procedure works for 4S:

Enable Cellular Data and MMS on iPhone 4S, IOS 6.1 and up on Straight Talk

Update 2/14/2013 - IOS 6.1 and up on iPhone 4S

1. Close all running apps by double clicking home button to get to multitasking bar (cleans up icons and saves confusion)

2. Eject AT&T or ST SIM from your iPhone

3. Open notes app

4. Press home button to minimize notes

5. Go to Settings>General>Cellular (Cellular will be greyed out)

6. Insert T-Mobile SIM, when <Cellular> un-greys, tap it

7. Tap Cellular Data Network

8. Double press home button to get multitasking bar, select notes from bottom

9. Eject T-mobile SIM

10. Insert your Straight Talk SIM. IMPORTANT! Wait at least 60-70 seconds for HOME to appear at the top left of your screen. AT&T and HOME will alternate, then HOME will stay displayed. If you don't wait, this procedure will fail, and you will have to start over.

11. Double tap home button to get to the multitasking bar, select settings. You should see the <Cellular> settings page.

12. Enter the settings as given above, double check your entries for typos. Back out of the settings screen, and you are good to go.

Just chiming in. Judging by things I've read here & outside of this forum, I'm not sure my experience is the norm.

I have an (unlocked GSM) iPhone 5 with a ST sim that I bought (originally for my iPhone 4) sometime around February of this year. I was doing the TMobile sim swap method. Suddenly after iOS 7.03 (possibly just before that update) the new APN settings were automatically present once I swapped the cards. I didn't alter the settings then, and I haven't needed to re-swap since (same experience with my wife's iPhone 4, formerly on att). Everything is working just fine.

The other observation is that I suddenly have LTE service. My understanding was that my sim wouldn't support LTE, but it definitely is, and the one time I tested the speed it was good LTE.

I think those having trouble should start with RESTORING their phones, then swap the sims. If you don't AUTOMATICALLY end up with new APN settings, I'd recommend spending a few bucks on an updated ST sim. Good luck.

Ok, thanks everyone. I did a hard reset erasing the phone. I then manually entered the "new" APN settings using the sim swap and I now can receive mms. I'm leary about doing the straight talk carrier update (phone reads home rather than TFW) because as soon as I did it before it totally screwed up me receiving mms. My fingers are crossed everything stays true but to be honest I don't see many folks posting of issues.
