itunes could not backup because a session could not be started with the iphone

Well it looks like since this latest update to iTunes I now get the session could not be started error. Followed the recommended steps of deleting the backup. (wish I wouldn't have as I have nothing to return to if I need to reset the phone) Doing this and rebooting all did nothing to resolve the issue. From what I am reading this looks to be more common since the 10.7 update of iTunes.

Apple I hope you or someone can help getting this resolved. Please support us loyal followers. 😕

Have the same problems after getting the 2nd replacement phone i5 from my telco.

1st i5: Volume button spoilt

2nd i5: Static sound during calls

3rd i5: Can't backup or restore with iTunes

Tried all methods from this thread to resolve the issue but to no avail.

Finally, with lingering hope and thinking to just trade in for a competitor's phone, i managed to solve the problem.

Solution:

1) Erase all contents and settings on the phone itself under Reset option

2) Delete iTunes program & all its component (iPod, Bonjour, any Apple programs u see on "Add/Remove programs"). Then retart Pc and install latest version.

3) Connect phone to iTunes and choose to restore from backup.

Good Luck!~!~

I spent about 6 hours on the phone with an Apple representative to fix my issue. There were dates involved that gave me my errors. If you will go to your control panel and then uninstall a program, look for the following programs and check thier dates. I had two of them from 2012 when I first put it on my computer and the others from 2014.

1. Itunes

3. Apple Mobile Device Support

4. Bonjour

5. Apple Application Support

Icloud if you use it frequently

So if the dates ARE different, or even if they aren't and you still have the problem. It was fixed by:

*NOTE* MUST BE UNINSTALLED IN THIS ORDER OR IF WILL MESS THINGS UP POSSIBLY*

1. Uninstall Itunes

2. Uninstall Apple Software Update

3. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support

4. Uninstall Bonjour

5. Uninstall Apple Application Support

Icloud if you use it frequently

1. Download Itunes

http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Also install icloud again if you uninstalled.

When you download itunes again and install, it will automatically put all of those you uninstalled back on your system.

Then reboot everything and check again.....

If that doesn't work, then backup EVERYTHING to icloud and do a hard reboot of your phone. Then when the boot is done, make sure you restore phone from an icloud backup.

After doing all of the above, I have no problems at all with it anymore. I have all my purchases, music, notes, contacts, everything, because it was backed up on icloud. Hope this helped.

** Cannot delete/recycle the whole lockdown folder, otherwise the itune wont be able to recognise your iphone or ipad device! **

  • Disconnect all iOS devices from your computer and quit iTunes.
  • Open Computer from the Start menu.
  • Choose Organize > Folder and search options in the file browser window, then click the View tab and change the "Hidden files and folders" option to "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Click OK.
  • Navigate to the following folder on your computer:
    C:\ProgramData\Apple\Lockdown
  • Look at the Date modified and just delete the most latest file (.plist).
  • Reconnect your iOS device and open iTunes.
  • Allow to sync with the device and trust the pc when prompted.
  • Now you are able to do the backup🙂
