How do I clear "other" effecting iphone storage

I am having this problem as well.

I have less than 10 pictures stored on my phone. No videos. 1.9G of music. 24 apps totaling 1.3G.

I already went through all my contacts and made sure they weren't accidently doubled up and hidden under "linked contacts".

I went through my Safari and cleared the history and reading list.

I deleted all of my recent calls and text messages.

I also regularly go through my email and delete everything.

Yet I still have 2.9G of other.

I have restored my phone multiple times, but that only brifely fixes the problem.

Normally I wouldn't care, but I am stuck with an 8G phone for another year, so having almost 3G of storage used up by "other" is extremely frusturating.

Someone, PLEASE help me with this.

so i did a bit of research on this. To get a break down of what apps are using space you can go to Settings>General>Usage.

There will be a list of apps and when you click on each app it will show you which apps are using the most "Document & Data" space which is OTHER. Delete those apps and re-Download and itll drop the app data into the KBs.

Turning iTunes Match on and off worked for me. I had 11 GB "other" before and 1.5 after.

Like every other operating system, iOS stores temporary files and app caches locally on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and these files can build up over time. Generally iOS is pretty good at housekeeping, but if you’ve had a device for a long time and haven’t deleted old unused apps, resynced recently, or restored from a backup, you may have more of these temporary files and caches stored on your iOS device than you think.

I am having the same problem as everyone else here - oversized "other" files that I can't delete off my 4S. i have one more problem in that I'm running an older MacBook (2008) OS X 10.6.8 with no plans to buy a new laptop any time soon. I did buy PhoneCleanPro - wish I hadn't since all it does is crash. I have turned off itunes match, that didn't help. I deleted music, audiobooks, text messages, etc ... nothing works. I will do the factory restore only as a last resort ... I'm not a newbie but by no means am I a pro, either. Is factory restore my only option for both my phone and ipad mini? Is there nothing else that can help? I ask because I've done restores before and a few months later had the same problem all over again.

Well, I've noticed an unexplained amount of used space called "Other" about 1.45G

I tried restoring my phone as in here

somehow this restored a significant amount of free space! obviously "Other" is nothing but corruption as they say

Before Restoring:

Apps: 540.8M (13 app)

Other: 1.45 G

After Restoring

Apps: 345M (12 apps)

Other: 648M !!!

all of my Data, contacts & apps are restored normally & successfully

Thanks for the tip, I tried: 'in ur Phone Go to: setting / general / usage / music and edit and delete you entire music library from your phone.'

This reduced my other folder from approx 10Gb to 90Mb.

It also made your music unplayable, even though it may still be listed. If that's OK with you then you have a solution.

This was my other problem, in ITunes my IPhone music was listed (but greyed out) but hardly any music

Actually on the phone.

I spent about an hour with Apple trying to resolve the issue, but no luck.

If you deleted the music files off your phone and tried to re sync nothing would transfer over as ITunes already thought the music was there.

When I got home later that evening I tried deleting all the IPhone music listed in ITunes and then tried a re sync.

This time music started to transfer over once it had completed I checked my IPhone and all the music was back in place.

I hope this helps other people with the same issue.

Yeah just did it this way too. Went from almost 3.6gb of "other" to a little under 900mb.

For some reason the Music files gets duplicated to the "Others" storage.

Assuming you have you Music saved in ur computer this is a simple solution:

in ur Phone Go to: setting / general / usage / music and edit and delete you entire music library from your phone.

Go back to you computer, connect your iphone and reload your music.

In my case I recover a little over 2GB of free space.

I just tried this and re-gained 38gig!!! From 40.2gb other no other method worked including restore from backup

How does one stop this reoccuring?

My iPhone used to have about 3GB worth of "others". It caused a lot of problems for me because I could not sync with my music library without a message saying that i had not enough space to hold about 400 songs when i already have 500+ songs in my phone. I tried deleting stuff but it just made the problem worse for me. In the end,I had to backup my data and do a system restore. After the system restore,my "others" dropped to 658 MB. In the end,I managed to sync everything.

In my opinion,a system restore is the best!🙂

Application data is the place where applications store their data. Even if you don't add any new apps, the data can grow. App data is usually very small, like settings, profile,etc., but can be large too. Dropbox and Evernote can be huge, depending on how much you store locally.
