Can I play iPhone audio through the car stereo and talk over bluetooth simultaneously

I'm switching from an Android to an iPhone 5. On the Android (a Samsung Galaxy S) I can route audio from the music player through my car's stereo speakers and handle phone traffic, incoming calls and texts, at the same time. I was wondering if a similar facility exists on the iPhone.

Thanks for the reply. I just want to make the situation clear. The call has to handled handsfree over Bluetooth while the music is playing through the stereo. I know I can play music through the car stereo. I want to know if, while I am listeneing to the stereo, I can handle a call handsfree over Bluetooth. On the Galaxy S, the music fades when the call comes in and resumes when the call ends.

This depends in part on your car audio system. Most will mute the music from any source, even when playing the car radio, when a call comes in.

Your post is unlear if the music connection to the Samsung is via cable or Blutooth. If Bluetooth, the hands free call will take over from the stereo music, regardless of the audio system behavior - both can't be handled by BT at the same time. The iPhone also will mute all music when receiving a call, regardless of the connection type.

Sorry, its both. The phone is connected via cable to the stereo, and wirelessly via Bluetooth. Once I have established the Bluetooth connection with the phone, I activate a setting in the music player app to play audio through the phone's speakers. This is the stock Android player, I believe, so the functionality could be part of that application or a call to an OS function.

It isn't the muting. I know it mutes whether I'm Bluetooth connected or just listening through the device's speakers. Here's the situation. I'm driving and listeneing to music from the device through the car speakers. I get a call through my Bluetooth headset, not over the car speakers, which I answer. The call audio comes through the Bluetooth. When the call ends, the music resumes through the car's speakers. Can iPhone do that?

I agree with modular747. The point you're making, I think, is that you're using both a Bluetooth headset for phone and car speakers and wire for music from your iPhone.

That is different from my personal setup, which does music as you do but instead of a Bluetooth headset, my calls also go through my car's speakers (and microphone).

Nonetheless, it should still work the same way.

I don't think there is really any misunderstanding. Although it may be that what I want to do cannot be done on the iPhone (which is okay). There are three alternatives here: 1) music and calls play through the car speakers; I do calls through the speaker on the phone; sound comes through the car speakers; 2) music and calls come through the Bluetooth. I have done both with a number of phones and cars, and neither works very well for me. What I have is 3) only music comes through the car speakers and only calls come through the Bluetooth. How can I set up the iPhone to do #3?
