Thanks for the correction, Michael. I did read the specs, but misread and thought that with the single model number that the sections posted on the European sites were covering the CDMA and GSM specs in separate paragraphs. No idea how those different models - A1428 and A1429 - will be sold when purchasing directly from the Apple Store. The French Apple Store, at least, doesn't have any way of specifying that I can determine.

Regards.

It seems all apple stores list all three models, but at least a couple of tech news sites have remarked that the A1429 GSM model is not expected to be sold in the USA. I have not seen anything though about whether the A1428 model will also be available in stores outside of the USA? Surely some other countries must use those LTE frequencies, so I'd say maybe?

It really does make it much clearer though that people are going to be far better off buying an iPhone in the country they live in to get optimal network compatibility (so hopefully all these "I'm going to buy an iPhone in the USA and use it country X" will die away).

This has come up as an issue within given countries, though. The French Apple site, for instance, lists both the A1428 and A1429 GSM models but doesn't say which will be available there or how one could specify if a choice is offered. It won't make a difference in France since the iPhone there doesn't support LTE at all, but could easily be an issue for international roaming. We'll hope that Apple, or someone who has talked to them about this, will eventually clarify on some site.

Regards.

I agree BUT as a consumer it's much cheaper to shop around to buy. If I can buy for UK network in Hong Kong for cheap, then yessus pleasus.

I remember Tescos bought jeans from Armani and Levi from different (cheaper) countries and sold them in the UK for £10.. £25.. Levi and Armani were horrified and sued their ***** off. I thought then and I think now that Tesco were looking good and the jeans companies were looking butterz (butt ugly).
