ipod classic does not appear in itunes devices - win7 itunes 10

Hello All, been searching but still no luck. Win7 seems to see my ipod under disk drive as well as the driver in the USB port. BUT, I am not able to see anything in iTunes. No device or source options at all. This is a new pc and might be related to that. My old IBM worked fine. Classic is new and functioning well. Have rebooted, went to disk mode, disabled the disk (ipod) under disk management, started and stopped the apple driver....no change.

My library is on an external drive ,,,,fyi.

Could use some help if anyone has a few thoughts.

Thanks, Dave

Plan77 -

Just tride the compatibility to 9older software under iTunes properties, no change. Since I was at WIN 95 in the past and it worked, I thought I would try this. Same results.

Is there any settings in the iPod I need to look at? iTunes is working fine. I can see my library, play tunes, even purchase.

Well if possible, try and find somebody who will let you test the iPod on it.

Does the iPod work okay otherwise? Have you looked at the iPod's dock connector port to make sure it is clean and clear or debris and that there are no visible signs of corossion or damage to the pins?

I know the cable worked with another iPod (a Nano in particular), but perhaps it would help to still try and use another one just to be sure.

Not sure what you mean by new cable installed....

Did you check the iPod's dock connector port as I mentioned above? And what were the results?

Either way this definitely sounds hardware related with the iPod itself especially since it does not even charge with multiple cables/USB ports/etc.

One last suggestion is to let the iPod's battery full drain and sit for a few days. Then connect it to an external power source and let it charge back up.
