FACETIME CALLING WRONG PERSON

I tried to make a Facetime call to my partner from my Iphone4 to his Ipad. I made the call the exact same way as I usually would by going to my recent call list and clicking on his name. However the call connected to my partners friend, someone who's e-mail address and phone number I do not have. This has happened a few times since but does not happen every time I call my partner.

Also, my partners brother has now tried calling him and got through to a complete stranger leading me to believe that there is something wrong at my partners end - not with my phone.

Does anybody know what this could be and any way of fixing it? Thanks 🙂

This just happened to me when I tried to call my dad, and I think I've figured out why. I still have my dad's old phone numbers stored in my contact info. Also, my dad was not in wifi and has "data" turned off for facetime calls. I think my phone found someone else on facetime using the old number and called them instead. Deleting any old numbers in your phone and making sure that the person you're trying to call is ready to accept a facetime call (has cell data on if they're not in wifi) would probably fix the problem.

Actually this is a real issue. Not just a mistake setting it up. I've been using Facetime with no issue for over a year on the previous iOS. Just upgraded to iOS7. Now when I hit "Call Facetime" to my girlfriend it keeps calling some russian guy who gets mad at me for calling him every time. ***. I haven't changed anything. Same contact in the phone.

This is a technical issue on either Apple or the phone carrier's side, not a setup issue.

I am having trouble calling my parents too. It keeps connecting me to this strange guy everytime and he is being very rude to me and he is starting to show his parts on screen too!! I can reach my parents if I "call back" from the Recent call menu. But when I use Factime through Favourites or Contacts, it connects me to this guy. The email address is correct as the iMessages are getting through....

Any solution?

Just happened to me again for the second time. Same guy. My mother FaceTimed me right back as she actually saw that I was trying to contact her but she had been busy and was slow to answer. So it sounds like FaceTime is directing me to both her and this guy. The guy told me I regularly was FaceTiming him. He also told me it was to his mobile phone while my mother's connection is to her e-mail address as she doesn't have a mobile phone. I wonder if Apple is cross connecting phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

I think I just figured out my problem. I was looking at my list of recent FaceTime calls and noticed below her name in a smaller font "Home" on the last communication which went through and "Mobile" on the previous communication where I was talking with this guy. At first I didn't understand this as she doesn't currently have a mobile phone but then I looked at her contact info and realised I had forgotten to delete the mobile phone number she had about five years ago. I am guessing that this guy was assigned my mother's old mobile number and FaceTime was trying it as well as her e-mail contact. I've deleted the mobile number from her contact information and I hope this solves the problem.

I just started having this problem today on my IOS7 iPhone. My sister tried FaceTiming me -- I was out and saw the call and ignored it, as I was out of wireless range. There was one call-- that's it. When I got home, she told me that she tried several times, and three or four times she got someone else! A teenage kid who wanted to know why she kept calling him! Then she sent me an iMessage -- and I didn't get that either. Nothing has changed. No AppleID change, no phone change, no email address or phone number change.

Also, I had my iPad with me -- nothing ever came through there either. So this would seem to not necessarily be the device, but the app itself.

I notice the oldest message in this thread is two years ago -- has there been any acknowledgment from anyone at Apple about this problem?

I am having this same problem. Once when connecting to my Mom, a stranger answered and showed me his private parts! And then another time I received a FT from "Mom" and when I connected, it was a stranger showing his privates again! I can't say if it was the same person as the first time as I did not look long enough.

Two other times while attempting to call my Mom, I've been connected to complete random strangers. APPLE - THIS IS A PROBLEM.

Hi all,

For me angel13 had the solution. I was freaked that this happened but he nailed it.

Please check your contact (the one you are calling) if they have older phone numbers or even old email addresses. For me, what happened, is that my mom had a US pre-paid sim that I saved to her contacts. After the sim wasn't used for a couple months, T-mobile deactivated the SIM and gave the number to someone else. That's what happened - FaceTime was calling this old number, and the totally stranger was answering.

Removing the old number should fix this. Not a bug, not Apple's fault, but maybe Apple should tie better the phone number to Apple IDs so this doesn't happen. that's what I think.

Happened with my friend, I face timed my friend and he answered. We talked for about 1 hour. After we hung up I received an incoming call that had my friends caller ID but when I answered it was a random person saying they had a missed call from me. Now it is happening when my partner calls me. He selects face time from my contact in his phone and sometimes a random Mexican woman answers. Very odd

I've been having this problem when making FaceTime calls from my MacBook, but it usually calls someone else in my contact list. For instance, today I went into my FT application and found my husband on the recent calls lists and clicked the little camera icon next to his name to FT him, and the application said "Calling AT&T" which is one of my contacts. The really crazy part is that it didn't call AT&T, it actually called another person on my contact list that is neither my husband nor AT&T. Oddly, I've never had this problem on my iPhone, but I have a different FT related problem with it, which I why I still use my MacBook even though dialing is like playing roulette. This is an incredibly serious problem for an application designed to call people to not call the right person.
