If you have a one button mouse hold down the CTRL key then click the mouse button. If you have a magic mouse depress the mouse on the right side.
Use two-fingered tap on the trackpad, not a click just a light tap with two fingers. Alternatively go into System Preferences -> Trackpad -> Point & Click and select your preferred option for 'Secondary Click'.

Instead of using one finger to press, you need to use two.
I am not using a mouse. just trackpad---but thanks, and I have discovered how it is done.
Thanks Zyriab. It works. BTW, in my system pref. it uses Trackpad Gestures>For ssecondary clicks----It does not use the terminology: Point and Click.
