Isync 2.2 Doesn't work with Sony Ericsson S700i

Completely unhacked Mac Mini. No messing with plist files or anything else.

S700i working fine for nearly a year with Isync.

Did full sync before update.

Now when I run isync I get

Monday, April 3, 2006 10:23 PM
[S700i] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.
Device "S700i" synchronization failed

On my phone, I get this message:

"Session failed. Communication interrupted."

Looks like the new Isync 2.2 is more IdontSync...

Hello Apple, it's broke!

It seems that a solution is to modify the plist as a first work-around:
1) Go in Applications->iSync->(Show Package Contents)->Contents->Plugins->ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice->Contents->Plugins-> PhoneModels.phoneplugin->Contents->Resources

2) In there, open the file Metaclasses.plist in TextEdit and look for com.sony-ericsson.S700 (if you have a S700) or com.sony-ericsson.K700 and replace just below "family.com.sony.ericsson.syncml-phones-2004-obexbug" with "family.com.sony-ericsson.irmc-old-phones".

I don't guarantee this will work perfectly, but it's worth giving it a try.

This worked for me with a Sony Ericsson S700i, firmware R3M008.

When I opened the file, the original entry was "syncml-phones-2004" and not "syncml-phones-2004-obexbug" as suggested above, but I changed it to "irmc-old-phones" and then restarted iSync, removed the phone and re-added it again, and now everything seems to work fine again.

What is the difference between "syncml" and "irmc" sync modes?

Thanks for your help and bug fix!
cheers

SyncML and IRMC are two different protocols to sync. IRMC is an old one and is present on Sony-Ericsson phones since a long time. SyncML is supposed to become the new "standard" protocol to synchronize. It is used by Nokia Series 40 phones and recent Sony-Ericsson phones (and other phones).

iSync introduced SyncML support in iSync 2.2 (thus it is able to synchronize Nokia phones like 6230).

For what I understand, Apple moved synchronization of K700/S700 to SyncML from IRMC but for some reasons, some revisions of these phone don't like the SyncML iSync is talking. It's hard to say who does the bad thing here: iSync or the Sony-Ericson phones, still it does not work.

Moving back the support to IRMC seems to fix the problem (I suppose it's back to something that already worked) but maybe this also means that you won't benefit from SyncML additional functionalities (if any).

Thanks! Seems to work just fine with my K700i.
