Isync 2.2 Doesn't work with Sony Ericsson S700i

Completely unhacked Mac Mini. No messing with plist files or anything else.

S700i working fine for nearly a year with Isync.

Did full sync before update.

Now when I run isync I get

Monday, April 3, 2006 10:23 PM
[S700i] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.
Device "S700i" synchronization failed

On my phone, I get this message:

"Session failed. Communication interrupted."

Looks like the new Isync 2.2 is more IdontSync...

Hello Apple, it's broke!

Thanks. This solved my problem.

It seems that a solution is to modify the plist as a
first work-around:
1) Go in Applications->iSync->(Show Package
Contents)->Contents->Plugins->ApplePhoneConduit.syncde
vice->Contents->Plugins->PhoneModels.phoneplugin->Cont
ents->Resources

2) In there, open the file Metaclasses.plist in
TextEdit and look for com.sony-ericsson.S700 (if you
have a S700) or com.sony-ericsson.K700 and replace
just below
"family.com.sony.ericsson.syncml-phones-2004-obexbug"
with "family.com.sony-ericsson.irmc-old-phones".

What do you mean by "wretched time zone foulup"?

iCal does nothing about time-zones and pass them up without any modification to the global sync engine.

iSync processes the events and give them to the phone in GMT time (as this is the only thing the phone understands). I've never seen iSync being wrong in that conversion (which is normal as it uses the system conversion system and it would be well known if someone had his system's time completely broken by the time zone 😉 ). However, this requires your phone to have it's GMT shift correctly sets. The GMT shift is determined by the base GMT shift (what they call the "time-zone") and the Daylight Saving settings. I think you should tweak that part to make sure everything is OK.

My apologies, I was not referring to the way the phone gets the time zones (I have that set ccorrectly) but rather iCal itself. When I came back from France to London and clicked the BST time zone, iCal reset all my appointment times. I do not have Time Zone Support turned on. I am concerned that when I go to Australia at the end of the month, iCal will reset all times, some of which will move to a different day.

Nobody in the iCal discussion group has anything to say about this problem, and, as you were so good with the phone sync problem, I thought I would try my luck with a different kind of synchronization issue.

Again, thanks for fixing my phone.

James

Timezone support activation in iCal is just a way to hide the time-zone user interface but technically, iCal continues to (and in facts has to) be time-zone aware. That's what you have this problem (that I can understand). What you wanted is iCal to create dates with some sort of "floating time-zone" (which is technically "wrong" but might help people not care about time-zones).
I think the "time-zone support" check box is a little bit misleading... In facts, I think having time-zone support activated all the time is better so you know explicitly what's going on and maybe fix it (by changing the events time-zones)

Filing a feedback to Apple about your concern is always a good thing to do.

This is a little off-subject for this thread, but a good fellow in the iCal forum told me how to do just what you said. An appointment can be given a time zone called .. you said it .. "floating" and it does not change when the time zone changes.

It solves the problem, which should not have been there in the first place.

Thank you for your SE k700i fix.

Hi. Sorry to be a bit thick here, but I can't figure out how to do the hack you suggest.
I am in David Morgan's situation: the Show Package Contents bit, and don't understand the further instruction you kindly provided. If I click once on the iSync icon, the "File > Open With >" option is dimmed. What am I doing wrong?

(B T W, would it be just as effective to reload iSync 2.1?)

Thanks, CF
