USB tethering lost after downloading I-tunes 10.7

I lost all tethering (USB and Bluetooth) after I downloaded I-Tunes 10.7 on Sunday. I live in the country so personal hotspot is the ONLY way I can access the Internet. Network manager lists iPhone, but says the computer can't connect to the phone by Bluetooth or USB.

What I have already tried:

I used Time Capsule to restore to before the download (didn't help). I found a solution on this board for Lion (i have Snow Leopard) but I tried it anyway. I deleted the file AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext, re-installed I-tunes from the installer, restarted but it didn't help. Next i connected both iPhones to a friends mac - personal hotspot worked fine, so I know it is my mac.

I have never used " terminal", so if your solution needs it, please write simply because I don't know what I am doing! Lol.

iPhone USB Tethering suddenly stopped working

Having compared two machines, (one updated the other not) the update of iTunes to 10.7 and now iTunes 11 installed an AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext version 2.3.6 and in the process messed it up.

You need to replace this kext with a good version or an earlier working version.

To do this, download KextUtility and install it, then drag the old working kext onto the KextUtility icon, it willreplace the broken version and fix any other permission issues in your Syst/Lib/Ext folder.

and the working kexts (if you can't find it on your time machine backup)...

Version 2.2.0 (Working on 10.6.8) http://db.tt/Fahk9VBe

Version 2.3.6 (Working on 10.8 & 10.7) http://db.tt/U674UcOV

Nice one Apple, thanks for wasting a few hours of my life, AGAIN.

It's not acceptable that having identified this issue, Apple haven't made the correction on iTunes 11 !

Thanks you very much Hibernian56 for this solution.

Problem still exists even after iTunes 11.0.2 for Snow Leopard!

Even after removing the "AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" completly and reinstalling 11.0.2 the USB Ethernet is still not working. I keep reverting back to an old iTunes 10 version to restore access.

Can someone who has a voice at Apple please notify the software department to close this bug.

Thank you.

Hi Joe, I'm not with Apple but the problem was solved for me by booting to the backup partition on my Mac (command R upon boot) and then reinstalling the OS. This is not as radical as it sounds, as the vast majority of your settings are still retained. This also tends to fix a variety of odd file discrepancies, including the one causing the USB issue. I received this Fix from a Genius Bar at the Irvine California Apple Store.

Why Apple does not solve this problem with an update? This is not normal... I lost a lot of time on the phone with Apple Technical Support, I even moved to the Apple Store and replace my iPhone 4S. Nobody at Apple has told me a solution. The problem on my iMac OS 10.7.5 and same result at work on my MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5. This situation is inacceptable and is still unresolved with Apple engineers.
